Samuel Sebastian Wesley
1810 - 1876 Person Name: Dr. S. S. Wesley Composer of "[O Jesus, I have promised]" in Hymns of Consecration and Faith Samuel Sebastian Wesley (b. London, England, 1810; d. Gloucester, England, 1876) was an English organist and composer. The grandson of Charles Wesley, he was born in London, and sang in the choir of the Chapel Royal as a boy. He learned composition and organ from his father, Samuel, completed a doctorate in music at Oxford, and composed for piano, organ, and choir. He was organist at Hereford Cathedral (1832-1835), Exeter Cathedral (1835-1842), Leeds Parish Church (1842-1849), Winchester Cathedral (1849-1865), and Gloucester Cathedral (1865-1876). Wesley strove to improve the standards of church music and the status of church musicians; his observations and plans for reform were published as A Few Words on Cathedral Music and the Music System of the Church (1849). He was the musical editor of Charles Kemble's A Selection of Psalms and Hymns (1864) and of the Wellburn Appendix of Original Hymns and Tunes (1875) but is best known as the compiler of The European Psalmist (1872), in which some 130 of the 733 hymn tunes were written by him.

Juan Bautista Cabrera Ivars
1837 - 1916 Person Name: Juan Bautista Cabrera, 1837-1916 Translator of "O Jesus, I Have Promised (Jesús, yo he prometido)" in Santo, Santo, Santo Juan Bautista Cabrera Ivars was born in Benisa, Spain, April 23, 1837. He attended seminary in Valencia, studying Hebrew and Greek, and was ordained as a priest. He fled to Gibraltar in 1863 due to religious persecution where he abandoned Catholicism. He worked as a teacher and as a translator. One of the works he translated was E.H. Brown's work on the thirty-nine articles of the Anglican Church, which was his introduction to Protestantism. He was a leader of a Spanish Reformed Church in Gibraltar. He continued as a leader in this church when he returned to Spain after the government of Isabel II fell, but continued to face legal difficulties. He then organized the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church and was consecrated as bishop in 1894. He recognized the influence of music and literature on evangelism which led him to write and translate hymns.

1845 - 1919 Person Name: Rev. Reginald Francis Dale, Mus. B. Composer of "S. CATHERINE" in Children's Hymnal Born: September 2, 1845, Sydenham, England.
Died: November 14, 1919, Headington, Oxford, England.
Son of the Dean of Rochester, Dale was a Scholar of The Queen’s College, Oxford (BA & MusB 1866). Ordained a deacon in 1870, and priest in 1871, he was assistant master at Westminster School (1870-86); Rector of Bletchingdon (1885-99) and Hampton Poyle (1892-97), and Perpetual Curate of Binsey (1905-10). His works include:
