Daniel Batchellor

1845 - 1934 Person Name: D. Batchellor Composer of "[From quiet night]" in Childhood Songs Daniel Batchellor United Kingdom 1845-1934. Born in London and educated in Brighton, he was a Quaker who wrote children's songs and musical instruction books. He emigrated to America in 1877, arriving in Boston. He worked at the New England Conservatory and the Oratory at Boston University. He promoted the Tonic Sol-Fa singing method, but the movement failed to establish itself. In 1920, a widower, he lived with his daughter, Marion, and her family in Baltimore, and later in Washington, D.C. He died in Philadelphia. John Perry
