Text: | Sunshine and Shadows |
Author: | Rev. Roy I. Dunckel |
Tune: | [Whene’er I see a shadow across my pathway fly] |
Composer: | I. H. Meredith |
1 Whene’er I see a shadow across my pathway fly,
It sets my heart rejoicing, I know the sun is high;
I know God sends the raincloud, swift sailing o’er the blue,
To cheer the drooping blossom that miss’d the morning dew.
Refrain:
Praise God for the shadows—we need them ev’ry one,
For there could be no shadows without the shining sun;
Praise God for the shadows—His love is ever nigh,
For shadows promise showers with a rainbow bye and bye.
2 Whene’er my soul is thirsting, the clouds of grace hang low,
And where their shadows gather the living waters flow;
When sunny paths grow weary the cooling shadows fall,
For sunshine and for shadow, O praise the Lord of all. [Refrain]
3 When sorrow pain or trial like shadows dark may roll,
Across the verdant pastures where Jesus leads the soul;
O spend no time repining—let happy anthems swell,
The sun of love is shining—God lives and all is well. [Refrain]
