Call Jehovah thy salvation

Author: James Montgomery Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 214 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 91 Lyrics: Call Jehovah thy salvation, Rest beneath the Almighty's shade, In his secret habitation Dwell, and never be dismay'd: There no tumult shall alarm thee, Thou shalt dread no hidden snare, Guile nor violence can harm thee In eternal safeguard there. From the sword at noon-day wasting, From the noisome pestilence, In the depth of midnight blasting, God shall be thy sure defence; Fear not thou the deadly quiver, When a thousand feel the blow, Mercy shall thy soul deliver, Though ten thousand be laid low. Only with thine eyes the anguish Of the wicked thou shalt see, When by slow disease they languish, When they perish suddenly: 149 Thee, though winds and waves be swelling, God, thine hope, shall bear through all; Plague shall not come nigh thy dwelling, Thee no evil shall befall. He shall charge his angel legions, Watch and ward o'er thee to keep; Though thou walk through hostile regions, Though in desert wilds thou sleep: On the lion vainly roaring, On his young, thy foot shall tread, And, the dragon's den exploring, Thou shalt bruise the Serpent's head. Since, with pure and firm affection, Thou on God hast set thy love, With the wings of His protection He will shield thee from above: Thou shalt call on Him in trouble, He will hearken, He will save, Here for grief reward thee double, Crown with life beyond the grave. Topics: God guards his people; Omnipotence of God

Psalm 91 Part 1

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 112 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 91:1-7 First Line: He that hath made his refuge God Lyrics: He that hath made his refuge God Shall find a most secure abode, Shall walk all day beneath his shade, And there at night shall rest his head. Then will I say, "My God, thy power Shall be my fortress and my tower; I, that am formed of feeble dust, Make thine almighty arm my trust." Thrice happy man! thy Maker's care Shall keep thee from the fowler's snare; Satan, the fowler, who betrays Unguarded souls a thousand ways. Just as a hen protects her brood From birds of prey that seek their blood, Under her feathers, so the Lord Makes his own arm his people's guard. If burning beams of noon conspire To dart a pestilential fire, God is their life; his wings are spread To shield them with a healthful shade. If vapors with malignant breath Rise thick, and scatter midnight death, Isr'el is safe; the poisoned air Grows pure, if Isr'el's God be there. What though a thousand at thy side, At thy right hand ten thousand died, Thy God his chosen people saves Amongst the dead, amidst the graves. So when he sent his angel down To make his wrath in Egypt known, And slew their sons, his careful eye Passed all the doors of Jacob by. But if the fire, or plague, or sword, Receive commission from the Lord To strike his saints among the rest, Their very pains and deaths are blest. The sword, the pestilence, or fire, Shall but fulfil their best desire; From sins and sorrows set them free, And bring thy children, Lord, to thee. Topics: Angels guardian; Preservation in public dangers; Pestilence preservation in it; Safety in public dangers

The Man Who Once Has Found Abode

Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 37 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 91:1-14 Lyrics: 1 The man who once has found abode, within the secret place of God shall with Almighty God abide, and in his shadow safely hide. 2 I therefore of the Lord will say, he is my refuge and my stay; my citadel of strength is he — My God in whom my trust shall be. 3 For he shall with his watchful care preserve thee from the fowler's snare; yea, he shall be thy sure defense against the deadly pestilence. 4 His outspread pinions shall thee hide, beneath his wings shalt thou confide. His faithfulness shall ever be a shield and buckler unto thee. 5 No nightly terrors shall alarm, no deadly shaft by day shall harm; nor pestilence that walks by night, nor plagues that waste in noonday light. 6 Because his angels he commands to bear thee safely in their hands, to guard thy ways, lest left alone, thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7 "Because he set his love on Me, from danger I will set him free. Because to him My name is known, On high I'll set him as Mine own."
