O what a Sun which rose this day Triumphant from the tomb! 3 This day be grateful homage paid, And loud hosannas sung; Let gladness dwell in ev'ry heart, And praise on ev'ry tongue. 4 Ten thousand diff'rent lips shall join To hail this welcome morn, Which scatters blessings from its wings To nations yet unborn. At the Name of Jesus

Author: Caroline Maria Noel (1817-1877) Meter: 11.11.11.11 Appears in 252 hymnals Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:12-28 First Line: At the Name of Jesus every knee shall bow Lyrics: 1 At the Name of Jesus every knee shall bow, every tongue confess him King of glory now; 'tis the Father's pleasure we should call him Lord, who from the beginning was the mighty Word. 2 Humbled for a season to receive a name from the lips of sinners unto whom he came, faithfully he bore it spotless to the last, brought it back victorious when from death he passed; 3 Name him, Christians, name him, with love strong as death, but with awe and wonder, and with bated breath; he is God the Saviour, he is Christ the Lord, ever to be worshipped, trusted, and adored. 5 In your hearts enthrone him; there let him subdue all that is not holy, all that is not true; crown him as your Saviour in temptation's hour; let his will enfold you in its light and power. 5 Christians, this Lord Jesus shall return again, with his Father's glory, with his angel train; for all wreaths of empire meet upon his brow, and our hearts confess him King of Glory now. Topics: Praise of God; Reign of Christ; Name of Jesus; Ascension and Exaltation Used With Tune: KING'S WESTON

At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing

Author: Robert Campbell (1814-1868) Meter: 7.7.7.7 D Appears in 186 hymnals Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:12-28 Lyrics: 1 At the Lamb's high feast we sing praise to our victorious King, who hath washed us in the tide flowing from his pierced side; praise we him, whose love divine gives his sacred blood for wine, gives his body for the feast, Christ the victim, Christ the priest. 2 Where the paschal blood is poured, death's dark angel sheathes his sword; Israel's hosts triumphant go through the wave that drowns the foe. Praise we Christ, whose blood was shed, paschal victim, paschal bread; with sincerity and love eat we manna from above. 3 Mighty victim from on high, hell's fierce powers beneath thee lie; death is broken in the fight, thou has brought us life and light. Now no more can death appal, now no more the grave enthral! Thou has opened paradise, and in thee thy saints shall rise. 4 This, our gift of Easter joy, sin alone can now destroy; from sin's power do thou set free souls new-born, O Lord, in thee. Hymns of glory, songs of praise, Father, unto thee we raise; risen Lord, all praise to thee, with the Spirit ever be. Topics: Easter (season); Easter Vigil ; Eucharist; Funeral Used With Tune: SALZBURG Text Sources: Latin, 1632

Lift Your Glad Voices

Author: Henry Ware Jr. Meter: 10.11.11.11.12.11.10.11 Appears in 162 hymnals Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15 First Line: Lift your glad voices in triumph on high Lyrics: 1 Lift your glad voices in triumph on high, for Jesus has risen and we shall not die. Vain were the terrors that gathered around him, and short the dominion of death and the grave. He burst from the fetters of evil that bound him, resplendent in glory, to live and to save. Loud was the chorus of angels on high, the Savior has risen, and we shall not die. 2 Glory to God, in full anthems of joy; the being God gave us, death cannot destroy. Sad were the life we may part with tomorrow, if tears were our birthright and death were our end. But Jesus has cheered the deep valley of sorrow, and bade us, immortal, to heaven ascend. Lift then your voices in triumph on high, for Jesus has risen, and we shall not die. Topics: Death and Eternal Life; Funeral / Memorial Service; Joy; Suffering Used With Tune: RESURRECTION Text Sources: Christian Disciple, 1817, alt.
