Rally around the cross

Representative Text

1 Ye soldiers of the kingdom on the battle-fields of sin,
Each time you press the battle you the victory should win;
Do not spread out like billows as they madly foam and toss,
But concentrate your efforts as you rally around the cross.

Refrain:
Then rally around the cross, rally around the cross;
You’ll never meet disaster if you rally around the cross.
Then rally around the cross, rally around the cross;
You’ll grow more like the Master if you rally around the cross

2 Stand fast so that the Captain may depend each day on you,
Each day enduring hardships as His soldiers good and true;
Esteeming ease and pleasure as but tinsel and but dross;
Unfurl the Gospel banner as you rally around the cross. [Refrain]

3 On every field of battle where the sabers clash and ring,
The fighting is the hardest wheresoever stands the King;
E’er watch the royal banner while defending it from loss;
You cannot be defeated if you rally around the cross. [Refrain]

At the age of nineteen he joined the M.E. Church, and a few years later he was granted a license to preach the Gospel, and still later he was regularly ordained by Bishop Merrill.
