Representative Text

1 When the Lord of life and glory
From the darksome grave arose,
Angels told the joyful story
Of his conquest o’er his foes.

Chorus:
Glory, glory, hallelujah!
Christ the Lord is ris’n today;
From the grave of each disciple,
Lo, the stone is rolled away.

2 On the first glad Easter Jesus
Rose triumphant from the tomb,
And to us this truth is precious—
He hath scattered far its gloom. [Chorus]

3 He hath left his gloom prison,
He hath triumphed o’er the grave,
Mortals, sing! your King hath risen;
Christ the Lord is strong to save. [Chorus]

4 Angels, tell again the story,
Sound it far o’er hill and plain:
Jesus, Lord of life and glory,
Shall return to earth again. [Chorus]
