Representative Text

1 When clouds, dark and heavy, hang over my way,
When shadows, before me, my soul would dismay,
I’ll follow my Saviour, tho’ I cannot see,
My trust is in Jesus, He’ll take care of me.

Refrain:
I’ll follow my Saviour,
Where’er it may be;
My trust is in Jesus,
He’ll take care of me.

2 When often before me is sorrow and care,
And burdens too great for my spirit to bear,
I roll them on Him who can give liberty,
My trust is in Jesus, He’ll take care of me. [Refrain]

3 When friends of the sunshine grow cold in the shade,
I’ll still have one Friend, so I’ll not be afraid;
He’ll ever be near me tho’ others may flee,
My trust is in Jesus, He’ll take care of me. [Refrain]

4 Soon life and its sorrows with me will be past,
But I’ll follow Jesus, by faith, till the last;
Then still I’ll keep shouting o’er death’s rolling sea,
My trust is in Jesus, He’ll take care of me. [Refrain]

Johnson Oatman, Jr., son of Johnson and Rachel Ann Oatman, was born near Medford, N. J., April 21, 1856. Outside of the usual time spent in the public schools, Mr. Oatman received his education at Herbert's Academy, Princetown, N. J., and the New Jersey Collegiate Institute, Bordentown, N. J. At the age of nineteen he joined the M.E. Church, and a few years later he was granted a license to preach the Gospel, and still later he was regularly ordained by Bishop Merrill. However, Mr. Oatman only serves as a local preacher. For many years he was engaged with his father in the mercantile business at Lumberton… Go to person page >
