Representative Text

1 What though the waves of temptation are rolling,
Fainting of heart, your soul filled with fear,
Jesus still walks on the turbulent billows,
Be of good cheer! O be of good cheer!

Refrain:
Be of good cheer! O soul do not fear!
While Jesus your Saviour is drawing so near;
Be of good cheer! He counts every tear,
Wait for His coming, O be of good cheer!

2 Sing out with joy! trust His mighty salvation,
Over the storm His voice you can hear,
Sweetly it rings o’er the treacherous waters,
Be of good cheer! O be of good cheer! [Refrain]

3 Rest in His peace, tremble not at the shadows,
Soon will the morn of gladness appear,
God know it all, He has never yet failed you—
Be of good cheer! O be of good cheer! [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
