Representative Text

1 Two useful little friends have I,
My Jesus gave to me,
That I might teach them day by day,
To serve Him faithfully.

Chorus:
Two little friends God gave to me,
His work to help me do,
O may they ever faithful be
To One so good and true.

2 I must not ever let them do
An action mean or wrong,
But only things both good and true,
For they to Him belong. [Chorus]

3 These little friends are my two hands,
The left one and the right,
From evil keep them spotless, Lord,
And clean within Thy sight. [Chorus]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
