Representative Text

1 ‘Twas the blessed day of Pentecost
When the Spirit, sent from heav’n,
On the head of each disciple fell,
From the Father’s presence giv’n.

Chorus:
When the tongues of fire, the tongues of fire,
Fell one ach disciple’s head,
They were filled with pow’r to preach that hour,
“Christ is risen from the dead.”

2 Then they spake with joy the living word,
They were nevermore dismayed;
And the hearts of all were deeply stirred
By the wonders God displayed. [Chorus]

3 Send Thy Spirit down on us, dear Lord,
While we wait before Thy throne;
Give Thy servants grace to speak Thy word,
Let them fear but Thee alone. [Chorus]
