Representative Text

1 The harvest is great,
The laborers are few;
Jesus calls for reapers,
He calls the tried and true.
Oh, are you ready, brother?
Say, “Here am I, send me;”
“Send where thou wilt, dear Master;
True to the end I’ll be.”

Refrain:
Then haste away, ye reapers of the cross,
The golden harvest must not suffer loss;
The evening sun is sinking very fast,
Soon the harvest-time will be forever past.

2 The harvest is great,
Oh, see the falling grain
On the Indian mountains,
On China’s floral plain.
Speed to the harvest, reaper,
Garner a few more sheaves;
When all the reapers gather,
Dare not to come with leaves. [Refrain]

3 The harvest is great,
The laborers are few,
Jesus now is calling
So earnestly for you.
Go to the harvest, brother,
Go like a reaper brave;
Rush to the rescue, sister,
Perishing souls to save. [Refrain]

4 The harvest is great,
How can we e’er describe?
From the Greenland dweller,
From Afric’s dusky tribe,
Comes there a call so plaintive,
Hear it from morn till night;
Hear ‘mid the teardrops falling:
“Send us the gospel light.” [Refrain]

Coda:
Then haste ye to the harvest,
Ye reapers of the cross.
