Representative Text

1 Sunlight is fading in quiet skies afar,
Day is departing, the evening gates unbar;
Saviour, be near us, our comfort and our stay,
For in Thy keeping darkness is as day.

2 Grant that Thy peace in each heart may hold its sway,
Grant us Thy hope with its holy, heav’nly ray;
O may Thy love as a blessed beacon shine,
Gleam through the shadows with a light divine.

Abide with me! Fast falls the eventide,
The darkness deepens—Lord, with me abide!
When other helpers fail, and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me!
