Representative Text

1 Send the happy tidings flying
Over land and rolling sea;
Nations all must hear the story
Of redemption, full and free.

Chorus:
Send the tidings, let them fly,
God to man is drawing nigh;
Send the tidings with acclaim,
All the world shall praise his name.

2 News, good news to high and lowly,
Let the harps of gladness ring;
Tell of Christy, the mighty Savior,
Christ, the living, reigning King. [Chorus]

3 Send the happy tidings flying
Till in endless streams they flow
Onward, like a mighty river,
Bringing peace, goodwill below. [Chorus]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
