Representative Text

1 Rejoice! Ye children of a King,
And tell salvation’s story,
The old all-absorbing theme
That angels sing in glory.
Rejoice! For life is new and sweet,
‘Tis seal’d with promise tender,
O walk his ways with willing feet!
And loving service render.

Refrain:
Sing aloud and shout for joy!
Heirs to mansions bright above;
Sing aloud and shout for joy!
Sing of God and his great love.

2 Rejoice! Ye children of a King,
Encircled by his power,
Beneath the shadow of his wings
Rejoice! Tho’ clouds may lower.
Rejoice! And travel calmly on,
Tho’ rough the way and lonely,
O lay your burdens at his feet,
And trust in Jesus only. [Refrain]

3 Rejoice! Ye children of a King,
Away with gloom and sadness!
For heirs to mansions in the skies,
Should sing aloud with gladness!
Rejoice! Your tears shall jewels be
Where sorrow cometh never,
For in the palace of the King,
His glory shines forever. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
