Representative Text

1 Quench not the Spirit,
Turn not away,
Tenderly, earnestly,
Pleads He today;
Yield not thy heart
Lest He depart,
And at thy later call
Answers thee nay.

Refrain:
Come, Holy Spirit,
Comforter, Friend,
Warn me from the paths of sin,
Help Thou me life’s race to win;
Guide to the end,
Guide to the end.

2 Comfort He bringeth,
Herald of peace,
While He directs thy way
Wand’rings shall cease;
Oh, may His power
Aid ev’ry hour,
From each besetting sin
Grant sweet release. [Refrain]

3 Quench not the Spirit,
Now He is near;
Heaven-sent Comforter,
My soul to cheer;
Close by thy side
Bid Him abide,
While He thy guest shall be
What shalt thou fear? [Refrain]
