What Shall It Profit Thee?

Representative Text

1 O what shall it profit thee, by and by?
And where will thy treasure be when
This vain sinful world, from thy grasp shall be hurled,
Say, what shall it profit thee then?

Chorus:
O come to the Saviour, O make no delay,
For times golden moments are hasting away;
It would profit thee nothing, but dreadful the cost,
To gain the whole world, if thy soul should be lost.

2 O what shall it profit thee, by and by,
When standing before the white throne,
To hear the Judge say, at the great judgment day,
"Depart, thee I never have known?" [Chorus]

3 O what shall it profit thee, by and by?
If only life's struggles have been
To procure from the world all its treasures and gold?
O what shall it profit thee then? [Chorus]

4 How great would the profit be, by and by,
When Jesus shall gather his own,
Having counted as loss, every earth joy as dross,
Then to rest with him safely at home? [Chorus]

5 O this will the profit be, by and by,
When life's weary conflicts are o'er,
Having reckoned as gain every sorrow and pain,
And to dwell with the Lord evermore. [Chorus]
