O vilde du betænke

Representative Text

Jesus:
1 O, vilde du betænke
Min Pine og min Død!
Jeg vilde Livet skjænke
Dig for den evig; Død,
Og byde dig god Hvile,
For alle Sorgens Pile,
Ja Himlens Glæde sød.

2 Jeg haver dig ei vundet
Med Sølv ei heller Guld,
Mit Hjerteblod er rundet,
Hvi er du mig ei huld?
Men efter Verden higer,
Ei sanser det, jeg siger:
Den Gjør dig vaandefuld.

3 Hvo Rigdom her begjærer
I denne Armodsdom,
Han faar, hvad Rust fortærer,
Bli'r hjertetræt og tom;
Den Rigdom, som gjør Sjæle
Evindeligen sæle,
Har i Guds rige Rum.

4 Thi lader eder nøie
Med det, I have faa't,
Min Fader skal tilføie
Sit kjære Barn alt Godt;
Til mig vend eders Længsel,
I Verden har I Trængsel,
I mig er Freden blot!

5 Se Liljerne i Enge,
Hvor lystelig de staa!
De har ei kjøbt for Penge
Den Pryd, de have paa;
Kong Salomon den rige
For den smaa Blomst maa vige,
Som jeg har klædet saa.

6 Se, alle de smaa Fugle
Til Redet flyve snar',
Og Rævene sin Hule
Ved min Forsyning har;
Selv har jeg ei en Pude,
Mit Hoved paa at lude,
For mig dog nok det var.

7 Er Himmel, Jord ei mine,
Dens Herlighed, hvert Gran,
Mon jeg da ei forsyne
Mit Folk med Føde kan?
Jeg Isra'l har bespiset,
Dem rette Veien viset
Til det forjetted' Land.

8 Saa lad ei Hjertet bløde
I mine Fode-Trin
For Klæder og for Føde,
Den Sorg lad være min!
Jeg eder vil forsyne,
Agt Ordene kun mine,
Og kom til mig herind!

Menigheden:
9 Tak, Pris og Ære være
Vor Gud i Evighed
For sin den føde Lære,
Som han os haver ted!
Han give, at vi kunde
Ret paa hans godhed grunde,
Vor Sjæl til Salighed!

Translator: M. B. Landstad

He took a theological degree (cand. theol) in 1827, and worked after that as the resident chaplain in Gausdal for six years.
