O swift to the Rock

Representative Text

1 O swift to the “rock that is higher than I”
Like Noah’s pale dove to its shelter I’ll fly,
My refuge thro’ sin’s raging billows shall be,
Thou dear “Rock of Ages” I’ll shelter in thee.

Shelter in thee,
Yes, I’ll shelter in thee;
Thou dear “Rock of Ages,”
I’ll shelter in thee.

2 My frail bark was tossed by the wind and the wave,
I cried in my grief, “Lord have mercy and save.”
Then quickly the Rock’s blessed shade I could see,
And now I am sheltered forever in thee.

Sheltered in thee,
Yes, I’m sheltered in thee;
Thou dear “Rock of Ages,”
I’m sheltered in thee.

3 Now safe on the “Rock” of salvation I stand,
While stretching before me is Zion’s fair land,
There Jesus, the rock of my faith I can see,
And rest me forever, safe sheltered in thee.

Sheltered in thee,
Yes, I’m sheltered in thee;
Thou dear “Rock of Ages,”
I’m sheltered in thee.
