Representative Text

1 O man and woman, maid and youth,
Come, build your hopes on solid truth;
Trust not a base of sinking sand;

Then thou canst stand the tempest's shock.

3 Build not with what will perish soon;
But silver, gold and precious stone
Use in thy building 'stead of hay;
There comes a burning judgment day.

4 Dig deep, build well, take time and see
That thine is solid piety,
That truth alone thy heart inspire;
Then do not dread the judgment fire.
