1 Oh, pueblecito de Belén,
afortunada tú,
pues en tus campos brilla hoy
la sempiterna luz.
El Hijo deseado,
con santa expectación
por toda gente y toda edad,
en ti, Belén, nació.

2 Allá do el Redentor nació
los ángeles están
velando todos con amor
al niño sin igual.
¡Estrellas rutilantes,
a Dios la gloria dad!
Pues hoy el cielo nos mostró
su buena voluntad.

3 ¡Cuán silencioso allí bajó
preciado y puro don!
Así también aquí dará
sus bendiciones Dios.
Ningún oído acaso
perciba su venir,
mas él de humilde corazón
le habrá de recibir.

4 ¡Oh Santo Niño de Belén!
Desciende con tu amor;
en nuestras vidas nace hoy
librándolas del mal.
Angélicos cantores
te anuncian al nacer,
ven con nosotros a morar,
oh Cristo, Emanuel.

Author: Phillips Brooks

Brooks, Phillips, D.D., was born at Boston, Dec. 13, 1835, graduated at Harvard College 1855, and was ordained in 1859. Successively Rector of the Church of the Advent, Philadelphia, and Trinity Church, Boston, he became Bishop of Mass. in 1891, and died at Boston in Jan., 1893. His Carol, "O little town of Bethlehem," was written for his Sunday School in 1868, the author having spent Christmas, 1866, at Bethlehem. Thomas Martin Westrup moved with his family from London to Mexico when he was fifteen years old. He translated hundreds of hymns and, along with his son, Enrique, published a three-volume hymnal Incienso Christiano.
