Representative Text

1 Never give up, tho’ the path be dreary;
What tho’ the gloomy shadows fall?
God sendeth rest to the heart that’s weary,
His tender care is over all.

Chorus:
Never give up, never give up,
Ever be loyal and true;
Never give up, never give up,
Jesus will help you through.

2 Never give up; there are roses growing,
Wakened to life by sun and show’r;
Thro’ the dark clouds there’s a bright side showing,
Morning will follow midnight hour. [Chorus]

3 Never give up, for your Lord is guiding
Over a thorny road, maybe;
Clasping his hands, in his will confiding
Trust in the love you fail to see. [Chorus]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
