Representative Text

1 Let us help one another for life is so short,
It is only a day at the best,
There are those all around us discouraged and sad,
We may point to the haven of rest.

Refrain:
Let us help one another,
And give of our best to each other,
Let us strive in this world below,
The Christ in his beauty to show.

2 Just a look, or a smile, it may lead to the light,
To the souls who are close by your side;
Will you leave them in darkness to perish alone?
‘Tis for these the dear Saviour has died. [Refrain]

3 Let us help one another with brave words of cheer,
Bringing joy to some heart while we may;
Heavy burdens grow light and the clouds disappear,
When the sunshine of love clears the way. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
