Jeg raaber, Herre Jesus Krist

Representative Text

1 Jeg raaber, Herre Jesus Krist,
Og beder, hør min Klage,
Den rette Tro den giv mig vist,
At jeg skal ei forsage,
Men stande fast, o Herre min,
Det vilde du mig give,
Her i Live
Ved Aand og Naaden din
Hart hos dit Ord at blive!

2 Jeg beder mer, o Herre Gud,
Du kan saa vel det mage,
Godt Haab mig giv til Enden ud
I mine tunge Dage!
At naar jeg gaar af Verden bort,
Jeg trøster i min Vaade
Paa din Naade,
Ei paa, hvad jeg har gjort,
Det er mig ingen Vaade.

3 Und mig og det, af Hjertens Grund
I Kjærlighed at blive,
Min Fiende elske allen Stund,
Og hannem saa tilgive,
Som du og selv har gjort mod mig,
For Ondt ham Godt tilvende,
Lade kjende
Den Ven i Himmerig,
Hvis Miskund ei har Ende!

4 Lad ingen Modgang, Lyst og Nød
Saa stærk imod mig skride,
Om det saa gjælder Liv og Død,
At de mig fra dig slide!
Lad ingen Ting saa være kjær,
Den skulde mig formene
Dig at tjene;
For alt i Verden er,
Du skal mig have ene!

5 Jeg ligger her i Sjæle-Strid,
Mig Djævelen gjør bange,
Og bruger al sin Kunst og Flid,
At tage mig til Fange!
Thi hjælp og styrk min Usseldom!
Han ellers fort mig fælder,
Træet helder,
Men du er miskundsom,
Du kommer, naar det gjælder.

Agricola, Johann or Johannes (latinized from Schneider, (Schnitter) or Sartor, also called Magister Islebius), born April 20, 1492, at Eisleben, where his father was a tailor. During his University course at Wittenberg, Luther took a great interest in him, entertained him at his own table, took him with him to Leipzig for the disputation, in 1519, with Dr. Eck, and in 1525 procured for him the position of Rector of St. Andrew's School at Eisleben, and preacher at St. Nicholas's Church there. He remained in Eisleben till 1536, working hand in hand with Luther; but after his removal to Wittenberg, in 1536, as one of the lecturers in the University, he developed Antinomian views, and, in 1537, published a series of theses which Luther answered… Go to person page >

In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries. Go to person page >
