Representative Text

1 It only costs a little
To keep a sunny face,
Or have a kindly greeting
For ev’ry time and place.
The birds are ever singing,
While flying here and there,
The busy bee a song is humming,
That ev’ry one might share.

Chorus:
Smile, smile all the while,
Sweet contentment show;
Keep a sunny face
Ev’rywhere you go;
Smile, smile all the while,
Sweet contentment show;
Keep a sunny face
Ev’erywhere you go!

2 The river has a gurgle
Of gladness, seems to me,
And ev’ry little brooklet
Joins in its melody.
Then why should not the children,
And other people, too,
Instead of fearing, frowning, fretting,
Be joyous, brave and true. [Chorus]

3 We see enough of sorrow
Around us ev’ry day;
The sunshine we should scatter
Will drive the gloom away.
Then let us do our utmost
To bring a cloudless sky;
Thro’ hope and faith and love endeavor
To smile instead of sigh. [Chorus]
