Representative Text

1 I will follow Thee, dear Jesus,
In the path where Thou hast trod;
Tho’ the way be long and dreary,
Yet it leads to home and God.
Oft in pain and oft in weakness,
I may stumble, but not fall;
Everlasting arms are around me,
And Thine ear will hear my call.

Refrain:
I will follow Thee, Lord Jesus,
Lead me on the up I pray,
Where the saints and angels praise Thee,
In the land of endless day.

2 I will follow Thee, dear Jesus,
Taking up Thy blessed cross,
Knowing ev’ry tribulation
Is eternal gain, not loss.
Looking unto Thee for guidance,
Fighting foes that lurk within,
Pressing onward with rejoicing,
I a crown of life would win. [Refrain]

3 I will follow Thee, my Jesus,
Tho’ the Jordan waves may roll,
Tenderly Thy voice is calling—
“Fear not, I will keep Thy soul!”
So with gladness I am singing
As I journey on my way,
Just a little while I’ll follow;
Then be with my Lord for aye. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
