Representative Text

1 Give us this day, this little day,
The grace to live as now we pray;
Though burdens press and hearts may ache,
Help for Thy mercies’ sake.

Refrain:
O give us today,
This one little day,
Thy strength in our weakness,
Kind Father, we pray;
O keep every soul
Beneath Thy control,
And lead on the upward way.

2 Give us today the strength we need,
And step by step Thy children lead;
Though faith and hope may oft be tried,
Still let us trust our Guide. [Refrain]

3 Give us today more pow’r to do
Thy blessed will, our strength renew;
Speak to our souls, our sins forgive,
Teach us in Thee to live. [Refrain]

Author: Lizzie DeArmond

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
