1 Fra Himlen kommer Engle-Hær
Til Hyrder, som paa Marken er,
Og om et Barn de sang en Sang:
Det ligger svøbt i Krybben trang!

2 I Betlehem, i Davids Stad,
Hvorom Profeten Mika kvad:
Det er den Herre Jesus Krist,
Den Felsermand, I vente vist.

3 O tænk, hvor godt det dog er ment!
At Gud med eder er forent,
Nu eders Kjød og Blod han bær,
Guds Søn er eders Broder kjær!

4 Hvad mægter Satan, Synd og Død?
Gud selv er med i eders Nød,
Hvad hele Helveds Vold og Magt?
Med eder Gud har Følge lagt.

5 Han vil og kan ei drive Spot,
Sæt Lid til ham, saa gaar det godt;
Lad komme nu, hvad komme vil,
I trodse kan alt Ondt, er til.

6 Tilsidst I gaa med Seier ud,
I ere nu i Slægt meg Gud;
Thi takker ham af Hjertens Grund
Taalmodig, glad hver Tid og Stund.

Luther, Martin, born at Eisleben, Nov. 10, 1483; entered the University of Erfurt, 1501 (B.A. 1502, M.A.. 1503); became an Augustinian monk, 1505; ordained priest, 1507; appointed Professor at the University of Wittenberg, 1508, and in 1512 D.D.; published his 95 Theses, 1517; and burnt the Papal Bull which had condemned them, 1520; attended the Diet of Worms, 1521; translated the Bible into German, 1521-34; and died at Eisleben, Feb. 18, 1546. Magnus Brostrup Landstad (born 7 October 1802 in Måsøy, Norway and died 8 October 1880 in Kristiania) was a Norwegian minister, psalmist and poet who published the first collection of authentic Norwegian traditional ballads in 1853. This work was criticized for unscientific methods, but today it is commonly accepted that he contributed significantly to the preservation of the traditional ballads. Landstad lived with his father Hans Landstad (1771–1838) who was also a minister, first in 1806 to Øksnes, to Vinje in 1811 and to Seljord in 1819. He took a theological degree (cand. theol) in 1827, and worked after that as the resident chaplain in Gausdal for six years.
