1 Fra Grønlands Is og Kulde
Til Zulus Palmelund
Er Verdens Vidder fulde
Af Nødraab denne Stund:
Fra mangt et Jordens Eden
Og mangen Ørken tom
Vi høre Raab og Veden:
"Kom over,hjælp os! kom!"

2 Naturen staar saa nydig,
saa blomstrende og mild,
Men Mennesket er syndig,
For hærdet grum og vild;
Den Herrens rige Gave
Kun vorder dem til Meen,
Som ingen anden have
Til Gud, end Stok og Sten.

3 Og vi, som Ordet nyde,
Og hvile Gud i Favn,
Har intet vi at yde
Til Hjælp i Jesu Navn?
Jo, Bud paa Bud om Naaden
I Kristus vorde sendt,
Alt indtil Sjæle-Vaaden
Hos Hedningen et endt!

4 Ja, ordet kraftig lyde
Og vidne om Guds Søn,
Al Jordens Folk indbyde
Til Naadens Arv og Løn!
For alle Jesus døde,
Og Fængslets Porte brød:
Hvor svar blev da vor Brøde,
OmLivets Ord ei lød!

5 I Bølger skal det bære,
I Strømme føre ud,
Til Jorden,Gud til Ære,
Staar pyntet som en Brud;
Til alle Folk sig glæder
Og Vei til Himlen ved,
Og Himlens Herre træder
Her frem i Herlighed!

Reginald Heber was born in 1783 into a wealthy, educated family. He was a bright youth, translating a Latin classic into English verse by the time he was seven, entering Oxford at 17, and winning two awards for his poetry during his time there. After his graduation he became rector of his father's church in the village of Hodnet near Shrewsbury in the west of England where he remained for 16 years. He was appointed Bishop of Calcutta in 1823 and worked tirelessly for three years until the weather and travel took its toll on his health and he died of a stroke. Magnus Brostrup Landstad (born 7 October 1802 in Måsøy, Norway and died 8 October 1880 in Kristiania) was a Norwegian minister, psalmist and poet who published the first collection of authentic Norwegian traditional ballads in 1853. This work was criticized for unscientific methods, but today it is commonly accepted that he contributed significantly to the preservation of the traditional ballads. Landstad lived with his father Hans Landstad (1771–1838) who was also a minister, first in 1806 to Øksnes, to Vinje in 1811 and to Seljord in 1819. He took a theological degree (cand. theol) in 1827, and worked after that as the resident chaplain in Gausdal for six years.
