Representative Text

1 Everlasting Father, Lord God eternal!
Silently we bow before thy boundless majesty;
Worship, honor, power, all thy worth confessing,
We at thy footstool life our hearts to thee.

2 Everlasting Father, Spirit of gladness,
Heav’n and earth shall sound thy praise with deep and hallow’d love;
Round thy throne most holy saints of all the ages
Loudly proclaim thee King all kings above.

3 Everlasting Father, righteous Redeemer,
May thy grace on us descend in never-failing flow;
To thy Church triumphant gather all the nations,
Soon may thy kingdom come to us below.

4 Everlasting Father, mighty Jehovah!
Fill our souls with light divine, thy sov’reign will display;
Lord of hosts celestial, endless adoration,
Glory unceasing shall be thine for aye!

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
