Close to the heart of Jesus, I can forget all care

Author: Mrs. Frank A. Breck
Tune: [Close to the heart of Jesus] (Hampton)
Published in 1 hymnal

Representative Text

1. Close to the heart of Jesus,
I can forget all care:
Bring Him my every burden,
And safely leave it there.
Close to the heart of Jesus-
Close in the troublous time,
There is my Strength- my Refuge-
And there my hope sublime.

CHORUS
Close to the heart of Jesus,
There I may softly tell
Failure, and toil, and trial,-
And telling Him,- all is well.

2. Ever His love hath spoken.
Whether ‘tis storm or calm;
Never are hearts are broken,
But He gives healing balm,
”Like as a mother comforts”-
Comforts her own- distressed,
So doth my Savior comfort,
And give the weary rest. [CHORUS]

3. Close to the heart of Jesus,
I shall not know defeat;
Triumph is mine- and gladness-
And blessedness complete.
Trusting I lean upon Him,
Close to His wounded side,
Close to His great compassion,
And there with joy abide. [CHORUS]
