Representative Text

1 Beautiful Bethlehem,
In Judea’s clime!
Oh! what a favored spot,
In the olden time.
Thine was the angel-song
In the starry night,
Thine was the shepherd’s joy,
Thine a wondrous sight.

Refrain:
Beautiful Bethlehem,
How I love the word!
Beautiful Bethlehem,
Birth-place of the Lord.

2 Beautiful Bethlehem,
In Judea’s land!
Where the glad Magi once
Saw the bright star stand.
Thine were the gifts so rare
By the wise men made,
Thine was their worship true
To Messiah paid. [Refrain]

3 Beautiful Bethlehem,
Glad my feet would stray
Unto the sacred spot,
Where the dear babe lay.
Oh! that the angel-song,
It were mine to hear!
Oh! that the guiding star,
Might to me appear! [Refrain]
