O worship the King all-glorious above

Author: Robert Grant, 1779-1838 Meter: 5.5.5.5.6.5.6.5 Appears in 1,142 hymnals Lyrics: 1 O worship the King all-glorious above, O gratefully sing his power and his love: our shield and defender, the ancient of days, pavilioned in splendour, and girded with praise. 2 O tell of his might, O sing of his grace, whose robe is the light, whose canopy space; his chariots of wrath the deep thunder-clouds form, and dark is his path on the wings of the storm. 3 The earth with its store of wonders untold, Almighty, your power has founded of old, established it fast by a changeless decree, and round it has cast, like a mantle, the sea. 4 Your bountiful care what tongue can recite? It breathes in the air, it shines in the light, it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain, and sweetly distils in the dew and the rain. 5 Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail, in you do we trust, nor find you to fail: your mercies how tender, how firm to the end, Our maker, defender, redeemer and friend. 6 O measureless might, ineffable love. While angels delight to hymn you above, the humbler creation, though faltering their praise, With true adoration shall sing all their days. Topics: Adoration and Praise; Anxiety; Creation; Light; Majesty of God; Mercy of God; Mystery of God's Love; Protection; Providence; Trust in God; Worship Earthly and Heavenly; Worship Processional Entrance Scripture: Deuteronomy 31:6-8 Used With Tune: HANOVER

Be Strong in the Lord

Author: Timothy Dudley-Smtih, b. 1926 Meter: 5.5.5.5.6.5.6.5 Appears in 4 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Be strong in the Lord In armour of light, With helmet and sword, With shield for the fight; On prayer be dependent, Be belted and shod, In breastplate resplendent: The armour of God. 2 Integrity gird You round to impart The truth of His Word As truth in your heart; His righteousness wearing As breastplate of mail, His victory sharing, Be strong to prevail. 3 With eagerness shod Stand firm in your place, Or go forth for God With news of His grace; No foe shall disarm you Nor force you to yield, No arrow can harm you With faith as your shield. 4 Though Satan presume To test you and try, In helmet and plume Your head shall be high; Beset by temptation Be true to your Lord, Your helmet salvation And Scripture your sword. 5 So wield well your blade, Rejoice in its pow'rs, Fight on undismayed For Jesus is ours! Then in Him victorious Your armour lay down, To praise, ever glorious, His cross and His crown. Topics: The Church Militant Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-18 Used With Tune: LAUDATE DOMINUM

Meter: 5.5.5.5.6.5.6.5 Appears in 10 hymnals Lyrics: 1 The Name of our God In Israel is known; His mansion beloved Is Sion alone: There broke He the arrows The enemy hurl'd, And honour'd His mountain Above all the world. 2 The pride of Thy foes Is turn'd to Thy praise; Their fierceness o'erruled Thy providence sways; Their sin overflowing Thy power will restrain; Thy arm on the wicked New glory will gain. 3 Ye nations, to God Vow homage sincere; Devote to Him gifts, Love, worship, and fear; Before Him, ye mighty, Your spirits repress; Ye high and ye humble, His wonders confess. Ye servants of God, Your master proclaim, And publish abroad His wonderful name: The name all victorious Of Jesus extol; His kingdom is glorious, And rules over all. 2. When devils engage, The billows arise, And horribly rage, And threaten the skies: Their fury shall never Our steadfastness shock, The weakest believer Is built on a Rock. 4. God ruleth on high, Almighty to save, And still He is nigh, His presence we have; The great congregation His triumph shall sing, Ascribing salvation To Jesus, our king. 5. Salvation to God, Who sits on the throne! Let all cry aloud, And honor the Son! The praises of Jesus The angels proclaim, Fall down on their faces, And worship the Lamb. 6. In water we grow

Author: Brian Arthur Wren, 1936- Meter: 5.5.5.5.6.5.6.5 Appears in 4 hymnals Lyrics: 1 In water we grow, secure in the womb, and speechlessly know love's safety and room. Baptizing and blessing we publish for good the freeing, caressing safe keeping of God. 2 In water we wash: the dirt of each day, its trouble and rush are carried away. In Christ re-created by love's cleansing art, self-will and self-hatred dissolve and depart. 3 In water we dive, and cannot draw breath, then surface alive, rebounding from death. Our old self goes under, in Christ dead and drowned. We rise, washed in wonder, by love clad and crowned. 4 In water we dwell, for by its deep flow through bloodstream and cell, we live, think, and grow. Praise God, love outflowing, whose well of new birth baptizes our knowing, and waters the earth. Topics: Baptism; Easter Eve; God's Love to Us; Grace; Renewal; Renewal of Baptismal Vows; Resurrection Scripture: 1 Peter 3:18-22 Used With Tune: PADERBORN
