Ye Baptized People, One And All

Hymnal: American Lutheran Hymnal #41 (1930) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Hymnal Title: American Lutheran Hymnal Lyrics: 1. Ye baptized people, one and all, Who know your God in heaven, Ye have received an holy call, To you Christ's name is given. Forget ye not, but ponder well, The precious gifts no tongue can tell, The blessing of baptism. 2. This washing cleanseth us from sin And lends a sacred beauty, It makes us white and pure within, Incites to love and duty, From Satan's prison sets us free, Enables us the sons to be And heirs of God, our Father. 3. Our sinful nature is renewed, The curse of God is lifted; With choicest blessings well endued, And with the Spirit gifted, We unto sin are pledged to die And by the pow'r of God on high The gates of hell can conquer. 4. Here we with Jesus Christ are clad. His righteousness receiving, Which covers what in us is bad, Our innocence achieving; His holy blood, for sinners spilt, Releases us from sin and guilt, And we with God find favor. 5. O Christians, bear this well in mind And thank the Lord sincerely For all the gifts that here you find And that you prize so dearly, When nothing else can soothe the soul, These gifts lend comfort till the goal Of life on earth appeareth. By Nature Man Cannot Achieve

Author: H. Brueckner; David Denicke Hymnal: American Lutheran Hymnal #97 (1930) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Hymnal Title: American Lutheran Hymnal Lyrics: 1 By nature man cannot achieve True knowledge of salvation, Nor yet the things of God believe, However high his station. Until Thy Word, that light divine, Within our hearts begins to shine, O God, we grope in darkness. 2 But Thou, O God, in days of old Didst send us faithful teachers. Who by Thy Spirit did unfold Thy holy will as preachers; At last Thy Son to earth came down, Who wore for us the thorny crown, Thy will and counsel taught us. 3 For this, O God, we sing Thy praise; True knowledge now possessing, May we continue in Thy ways And thus obtain Thy blessing. May we Thy Word with joy receive And in its saving truth believe, As Thine own revelation. 4 O let Thy Word, that shining light, Illume our pathway ever; Help us to keep it pure and bright, And may it fail us never, But comfort give in ev'ry need; In life, in death may we take heed And trust its faithful guidance. 5 O God, our Father, spread Thy Word To Thine own praise and glory; Enlighten us, O Christ, our Lord, With Thy true Gospel story; O Holy Spirit, gracious Light, Teach us to know the truth aright And work all good within us. Sing Praise To God Who Reigns Above

Author: Frances Elizabeth Cox; J. H. Schuetz; H. Brueckner Hymnal: American Lutheran Hymnal #594 (1930) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Hymnal Title: American Lutheran Hymnal Lyrics: 1 Sing praise to God who reigns above, The God of all creation, The God of pow'r, the God of love, The God of our salvation; With healing balm my soul He fills And ev'ry pain and sorrow stills: To God all praise and glory! 2 The angel hosts Thy praises sing Around Thy throne in heaven. On earth and sea, O mighty King, All praise to Thee is given. Let all who 'neath Thy shadow dwell In hymns of praise Thy wisdom tell: To God all praise and glory! 3 What God hath wrought to show His might, He evermore sustaineth. His eye is o'er us day and night, His mercy never waneth. Thro'out His kingdom's wide domain His works are right, His judgments plain: To God all praise and glory! 4 I cried to God in my distress, His mercy heard me calling; My Savior saw my helplessness And kept my feet from falling; For this, Lord, praise and thanks to Thee! Praise God most high, praise God with me! To God all praise and glory! 5 Ye, who confess the Savior's name, To God give praise and glory! Ye who the Father's might proclaim, To God give praise and glory! Let idols under foot be trod! The Lord is God! The Lord is God! To God all praise and glory! 6 Thus, all my gladsome way along, I'll sing aloud Thy praises, That men may hear the grateful song My voice unwearied raises; Be joyful in the Lord, my heart, Both soul and body, bear your part; To God all praise and glory! Salvation unto Us Has Come

Author: Paul Speratus, 1484-1551 Hymnal: Christian Worship (1993) #390 (1993) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Hymnal Title: Christian Worship (1993) Lyrics: 1 Salvation unto us has come By God's free grace and favor. Good works cannot avert our doom; They help and save us never. Faith looks to Jesus Christ alone, Who did for all the world atone; He is the one Redeemer. 2 What God does in his law demand And none to him can render Brings wrath and woe on ev'ry hand For man, the vile offender. Our flesh has not those pure desires The spirit of the law requires, And lost is our condition. 3 It is a false, misleading dream That God his law has given That sinners can themselves redeem And by their works gain heaven. The law is but a mirror bright To bring the inbred sin to light That lurks within our nature. 4 Yet as the law must be fulfilled Or we must die despairing, Christ came and has God's anger stilled, Our human nature sharing. He has for us the law obeyed And thus the Father's vengeance stayed Which over us impended. 5 Since Christ has full atonement made And brought to us salvation, Each Christian therefore may be glad And build on this foundation. Your grace alone, dear Lord, I plead; Your death is now my life indeed, For you have paid my ransom. 6 All blessing, honor, thanks, and praise To Father, Son, and Spirit, The God who saved us by his grace-- All glory to his merit! O Triune God in heav'n above, You have revealed your saving love; Your blessed name be hallowed! Topics: Justification; Justification Languages: English Tune Title: ES IST DAS HEIL

Salvation unto Us Has Come

Author: Paul Speratus, 1484-1551 Hymnal: Christian Worship #558 (2021) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Hymnal Title: Christian Worship Lyrics: 1 Salvation unto us has come by God’s free grace and favor; good works cannot avert our doom, they help and save us never. Faith looks to Jesus Christ alone, who did for all the world atone; he is our one Redeemer. 2 What God did in his law demand and none to him could render caused wrath and woe on ev'ry hand for man, the vile offender. Our flesh has not the pure desires the spirit of the law requires, and lost is our condition. 3 It was a false, misleading dream that God his law had given that sinners could themselves redeem and by their works gain heaven. The law is but a mirror bright to bring the inbred sin to light that lurks within our nature. 4 From sin our flesh could not abstain, sin held its sway unceasing; the task was hopeless and in vain, our guilt was e’er increasing. None can remove sin’s poisoned dart or purify our guileful heart, so deep is our corruption. 5 Yet as the law must be fulfilled or we must die despairing, Christ came and has God’s anger stilled, our human nature sharing. He has for us the law obeyed and thus the Father’s vengeance stayed which over us impended. 6 Since Christ has full atonement made and brought to us salvation, each Christian therefore may be glad and build on this foundation. Your grace alone, dear Lord, I plead your death is now my life indeed, for you have paid my ransom. 7 Let me not doubt, but truly see your Word cannot be broken; your call rings out, "Come unto me!" No falsehood have you spoken. Baptized into your precious name, my faith cannot be put to shame, and I shall never perish. 8 The law reveals the guilt of sin and makes us conscience-stricken; but then the gospel enters in the sinful soul to quicken. Come to the cross, trust Christ, and live; the law no peace can ever give, no comfort and no blessing. 9 Faith clings to Jesus' cross alone and rests in him unceasing; and by its fruits true faith is known, with love and hope increasing. For faith alone can justify; works serve our neighbor and supply the proof that faith is living. 10 All blessing, honor, thanks, and praise to Father, Son, and Spirit, the God who saved us by his grace; all glory to his merit! Wer ruft dem heer der sterne? 3. 4. 6. Salvation Unto Us Is Come

Author: P. Speratus, 1484-1551 Hymnal: Evangelical Lutheran Hymnary #227 (1996) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Hymnal Title: Evangelical Lutheran Hymnary Lyrics: 1 Salvation unto us has come By God's free grace and favor. Good works cannot avert our doom; They help and save us never. Faith looks to Jesus Christ alone, Who did for all the world atone; He is our one Redeemer. 2 What God did in His Law demand No man to Him could render. Before this Judge all guilty stand; His law speaks curse in thunder. The law demands a perfect heart; We were defiled in ev'ry part, And lost was our condition. 3 False dreams deluded minds did fill, As if to Himn we could at will Earns grace and enter heaven. The law is but a mirror bright To bring the inbred sin to light That lurks within our nature. 4 From sin our flesh could not abstain, Sin held its sway unceasing; The task was useless and in vain, Our guilt was e'er increasing. None can remove sin's poisoned dart Or purify our guileful heart, So deep is our corruption. 5 Still all the law fulfilled must be, Else we were lost forever, The God His Son sent down that He Might us from doom deliver; He all the lawy for us fulfilled And thus His Father's anger stilled Which over us impended. 6 As Christ hath full atonement made And brought to us salvation, So may each Christian now be glad And build on this foundation; Thy grace alone, dear Lord, I plead, Thy death is now my life indeed, For Thou hast paid my ransom. 7 Not doubting this, I trust in Thee, Thy Word cannot be broken, thou all dost call, "Come unto Me!" No falsehood hast Thou spoken; "He who believes and is baptized, He shall be saved," say'st Thou, O Christ, And he shall never perish. 8 The just is he--and he alone-- Who by this faith is living, The faith that by good works is shown, To God the glory giving; Faith gives thee peace with God above, But thou thy neighbor, too, must love, If thou art new created. 9 The law reveals the guilt of sin, And makes men conscience-stricken; The Gospel then doth enter in The sin-sick soul to quicken. Come to the cross, look up and live; The law no peace to thee doth give, Nor can its deeds bring comfort. 10 Faith to the cross of Christ doth cling And rests in Him securely; And forth from it good works must spring As fruits and tokens surely; Still faith doth justify alone, Works serve thy neighbor and make known The faith that lives within thee. 11 Hope waits for the accepted hour Till God give joy for mourning; When He displays His healing pow'r, Thy sighs to songs are turning. Thy needs are known unto thy Lord, And He is faithful to His Word, This is our hope's foundation. 12 Though it may seem He hears thee not, Count not thyself forsaken; Thy wants are ne'er by Him forgot, Let this thy hope awaken; His word is sure, here is thy stay, Though doubts may plague thee on thy way, Let not thy faith be shaken. 13 All blessing, honor, thanks, and praise To Father, Son, and Spirit, The God who saved us by His grace, All glory to His merit. O Father in the heav'ns above, The work begun performs Thy love, Thy worthy name be hallowed. 14 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done In earth, as 'tis in heaven. Keep us in life, by grace led on. Forgiving and forgiven; Save Thou us in temptation's hour, And from all ills; Thine is the pow'r, And all the glory, Amen! We hear Thy voice, we learn Thy ways, We love with Thee to tarry. Increase our faith and give us light That we may know Thy Word aright And reach our home in heaven. To God, the Father of all love

Author: J. Schütz Hymnal: Hymns of the Evangelical Lutheran Church #6 (1886) Hymnal Title: Hymns of the Evangelical Lutheran Church Lyrics: 1 To God, the Father of all love, the God of earth and heaven, The mighty God who reigns above, be praise and glory given! With healing balm my soul He fills, And every pain and sorrow stills; To God all praise and glory! 2 The angel host, O King of kings, Thy praise forever telling, In earth and sky all living things Beneath Thy shadow dwelling, Adore and praise their Maker's might, Whose wisdom orders all things right; To God all praise and glory! 3 What God's almighty power hath made, His gracious mercy keepeth; By morning glow or evening shade His watchful eye ne'er sleepeth; Within the kingdom of His might, Lo, all is just and all is right; To God all praise and glory! 4 I cried to God in my distress, His mercy heard me calling; My Saviour saw my helplessness, And kept my feet from falling; For this, Lord, praise and thanks to Thee! Praise God Most High, praise God with me! To God all praise and glory! 5 The Lord forsaketh not His flock, His chosen generation; He is their refuge and their rock, Their peace and their salvation; And with a mother's watchful love He guides them wheresoe'er they rove; To God all praise and glory! 6 When earth can comfort us no more, Nor human help availeth, The Maker comes Himself, whose store Of blessing never faileth, And bends on them a Father's eyes Whom earth all rest and hope denies; To God all praise and glory! 7 Thus all my pilgrim way along I'll sing aloud Thy praises, That men may hear the grateful song My voice unwearied raises; Be joyful in the Lord, my heart! Both soul and body, bear your part! To God all praise and glory! 8 Ye who confess Christ's holy name, To God give praise and glory! Ye who the Father's power proclaim, To God give praise and glory! All idols under foot be trod, The Lord is God! The Lord is God! To God all praise and glory! 9 Then come before His presence now, And banish fear and sadness; To your Redeemer pay your vow, And sing with joy and gladness: Though great distress my soul befell, The Lord my God did all things well; To God all praise and glory! Salvation unto Us Has Come

Author: Paul Speratus, 1484-1551 Hymnal: Lutheran Book of Worship #297 (1978) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Hymnal Title: Lutheran Book of Worship Lyrics: 1 Salvation unto us has come By God's free grace and favor; Good works cannot avert our doom, They help and save us never. Faith looks to Jesus Christ alone, Who did for all the world atone; He is our mediator. 2 Theirs was a false, misleading dream Who thought God's law was given That sinners might themselves redeem And by their works gain heaven. The Law is but a mirror bright To bring the inbred sin to light That lurks within our nature. 3 And yet the Law fulfilled must be, Or we were lost forever; Therefore God sent his Son that he Might us from death deliver. He all the Law for us fulfilled, And thus his Father's anger stilled Which over us impended. 4 Faith clings to Jesus' cross alone And rests in him unceasing; And by its fruits true faith is known, With love and hope increasing. For faith alone can justify; Works serve our neighbor and supply The proof that faith is living. 5 All blessing, honor, thanks, and praise To Father, Son, and Spirit, The God who saved us by his grace, All glory to his merit. O triune God in heav'n above, You have revealed your saving love; Your blessed name we hallow. Salvation unto Us Has Come

Author: Paul Speratus, 1484-1551 Hymnal: Lutheran Service Book #555 (2006) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.8.7 Hymnal Title: Lutheran Service Book Lyrics: 1 Salvation unto us has come By God's free grace and favor; Good works cannot avert our doom, They help and save us never. Faith looks to Jesus Christ alone, Who did for all the world atone; He is our one Redeemer. 2 What God did in His Law demand And none to Him could render Caused wrath and woe on ev'ry hand For man, the vile offender. Our flesh has not those pure desires The spirit of the Law requires, And lost is our condition. 3 It was a false, misleading dream That God His Law had given That sinners could themselves redeem And by their works gain heaven. The Law is but a mirror bright To bring the inbred sin to light That lurks within our nature. 4 From sin our flesh could not abstain, Sin held its sway unceasing; The task was useless and in vain, Our guilt was e'er increasing. None can remove sin's poisoned dart Or purify our guileful heart-- So deep is our corruption. 5 Yet as the law must be fulfilled Or we must die despairing, Christ came and has God's anger stilled, Our human nature sharing. He has for us the Law obeyed And thus the Father's vengeance stayed Which over us impended. 6 Since Christ has full atonement made And brought to us salvation, Each Christian therefore may be glad And build on this foundation. Your grace alone, dear Lord, I plead, Your death is now my life indeed, For You have paid my ransom. 7 Let me not doubt, but truly see Your Word cannot be broken: Your call rings out, "Come unto Me!" No falsehood have You spoken. 10 All blessing, honor, thanks, and praise To Father, Son, and Spirit, The God who saved us by His grace; All glory to His merit. O triune God in heav'n above, You have revealed Your saving love; Your blessed name we hallow. Scripture: Romans 3:10-31 Languages: English Tune Title: ES IST DAS HEIL
