Psalm 138

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 201 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 138 First Line: With all my powers of heart and tongue Lyrics: [With all my powers of heart and tongue I'll praise my Maker in my song: Angels shall hear the notes I raise, Approve the song, and join the praise. Angels that make thy church their care Shall witness my devotions there, While holy zeal directs my eyes To thy fair temple in the skies.] I'll sing thy truth and mercy, Lord, I'll sing the wonders of thy word; Not all thy works and names below So much thy power and glory show. To God I cried when troubles rose; He heard me, and subdued my foes; He did my rising fears control, And strength diffused through all my soul. The God of heav'n maintains his state, Frowns on the proud, and scorns the great; But from his throne descends to see The sons of humble poverty. Amidst a thousand snares I stand, Upheld and guarded by thy hand; Thy words my fainting soul revive, And keep my dying faith alive. Grace will complete what grace begins, To save from sorrows or from sins The work that wisdom undertakes Eternal mercy ne'er forsakes. Topics: Restoring grace; Perseverance; God our preserver; Angels present in churches; Assistance from God; Grace preserving and restoring; Preserving grace; Strength of grace

Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 Appears in 14 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 138 Lyrics: 1 With grateful heart my thanks I bring, before the great your praise I sing. I worship in your holy place and praise you for your truth and grace; for truth and grace together shine in your most holy Word divine, in your most holy Word divine. 2 I cried to you, and you did save; your word of grace new courage gave. The kings of earth shall thank you, LORD, for they have heard your wondrous word; yes, they shall come with songs of praise, for great and glorious are your ways, for great and glorious are your ways. 3 O LORD, enthroned in glory bright, you reign alone in heavenly height; the proud in vain your favor seek, but you have mercy for the meek. Through trouble though my pathway be, you will revive and strengthen me, you will revive and strengthen me. 4 You will stretch forth your mighty arm to save me when my foes alarm. The work you have for me begun shall by your grace be fully done. Your love forever will endure: your mercy, LORD, is ever sure; your mercy, LORD, is ever sure. Psalm 138: Thee will I praise with all my heart

Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 10 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 138 First Line: Thee will I praise with all my heart Lyrics: 1Thee will I praise with all my heart, I will sing praise to thee 2Before the gods: And worship will toward thy sanctuary. I’ll praise thy name, ev’n for thy truth, and kindness of thy love; For thou thy word hast magnify’d all thy great name above. 3Thou didst me answer in the day when I to thee did cry; And thou my fainting soul with strength didst strengthen inwardly. 4All kings upon the earth that are shall give thee praise, O Lord, When as they from thy mouth shall hear thy true and faithful word. 5Yea, in the righteous ways of God with gladness they shall sing: For great’s the glory of the Lord; who doth for ever reign. 6Though God be high, yet he respects all those that lowly be; Whereas the proud and lofty ones afar off knoweth he. 7Though I in midst of trouble walk, I life from thee shall have: ’Gainst my foes’ wrath thou’lt stretch thine hand; thy right hand shall me save. 8Surely that which concerneth me the Lord will perfect make: Lord, still thy mercy lasts; do not thine own hands’ works forsake.

With All My Heart I'll Praise Thy Name

Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 14 hymnals Scripture: Psalm 138 Lyrics: 1. With all my heart I’ll praise Thy name, Before the gods Thy praise proclaim; I’ll worship in Thy holy place, And praise Thee for Thy truth and grace. 2. For Thou o’er all Thy name, O Lord, Hast magnified Thy faithful word; Thou didst me answer when I cried, Thou hast my soul with strength supplied. 3. All kings of earth shall give Thee praise, When from Thy mouth they learn Thy ways; They in Jehovah’s ways shall sing, For great in glory is our king. 4. The Lord, though high, respects the low; But He the proud far off doth know; Though waves of trouble round me roll, Thou, Lord, wilt yet revive my soul. 5. My foes enraged, my way withstand; Against them Thou wilt stretch Thy hand, Thine own right hand shall set me free, And perfect make Thy work for me. 6. O Lord, Thy mercy never ends, Throughout all ages it extends, Then on Thy servant pity take, Thine own hands’ works do not forsake.
