To Us All, to Every Nation

Author: W. Garrett Horder; James Russell Lowell Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 193 hymnals Matching Instances: 69 Lyrics: 1 To us all, to every nation comes a moment to decide, in the strife of truth with falsehood for the good or evil side, some great cause, some modern prophet offering each the bloom or blight, and the choice goes by for ever 'twixt that darkness and that light. 2 Then to side with truth is noble when we share its wretched crust, ere the cause bring fame and profit and 'tis prosperous to be just. Then it is the brave one chooses, while the coward stands aside till the multitude make virtue of the faith they had denied. 3 By the light of burning martyrs, Jesus' bleeding feet we track, toiling up new Calvaries ever with the cross that turns not back; new occasions teach new duties, time makes ancient good uncouth; they must upward still and onward, who would keep abreast of truth. 4 Though the cause of evil prosper, yet 'tis truth alone is strong, though its portion be the scaffold and upon the throne be wrong. Yet that scaffold sways the future, and, behind the dim unknown, there stands God within the shadow, keeping watch beside God's own. Spread his praise from shore to shore; how he loveth, ever loveth, changeth never, nevermore; how he watches o'er his loved ones, died to call them all his own; how for them he intercedeth, watcheth o'er them from the throne. 3 O the deep, deep love of Jesus! Love of ev'ry love the best: 'tis an ocean vast of blessing, 'tis a haven sweet of rest. O the deep, deep love of Jesus! Author: George Wallace Briggs Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 52 hymnals Matching Instances: 12 Lyrics: 1 God has spoken by his prophets, spoken the unchanging word; each from age to age proclaiming God, the one, the righteous Lord. Come, O Spirit, Dwell Among Us

Author: Janie Alford Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 5 hymnals Matching Instances: 4 Lyrics: 1 Come, O Spirit, dwell among us; come with Pentecostal power; give the church a stronger vision; help us face each crucial hour. Built upon a firm foundation, Jesus Christ, the Cornerstone, still the church is called to mission that God's love shall be made known. 2 We would raise our alleluias for the grace of yesteryears; for tomorrow's unknown pathway, hear, O Lord, our humble prayers. In the church's pilgrim journey you have led us all the way; still in presence move before us, fire by night and cloud by day. 3 Come, O Spirit, dwell among us; give us words of fire and flame. Help our feeble lips to praise you, glorify your holy name. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Three in One: what mystery! We would sing our loud hosannas now and through eternity. Clear before us through the darkness gleams and burns the guiding light: trusting God we march together stepping fearless through the night. 2 One the light of God's own presence, o'er his ransomed people shed, chasing far the gloom and terror, brightening all the path we tread: one the object of our journey, one the faith which never tires, one the earnest looking forward, one the hope our God inspires. 3 One the strain the lips of thousands lift as from the heart of one; one the conflict, one the peril, one the march in God begun: one the gladness of rejoicing on the far eternal shore, where the one almighty Father reigns in love for evermore.
