On The Other Shore

Author: Asa Hill Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #11066 Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Hymnal Title: The Cyber Hymnal First Line: On the other shore they’re waiting Lyrics: 1 On the other shore they’re waiting, ’Till the last believer comes; In expectancy they’re waiting, In their bright celestial homes. They are waiting—yes, they’re waiting, In their bright celestial homes. In expectancy they’re waiting, In their bright celestial homes. 2 Waiting thro’ the dim long ages, With increasing joy and love, Holy prophets, Christian sages, In their blessèd homes above. They are waiting—yes, they’re waiting, In their bright celestial homes. Holy prophets, Christian sages, In their blessèd homes above. 3 Waiting for the new creation, And the coronation day, For the final consummation, And the universal sway. They are waiting—yes, they’re waiting, In their bright celestial homes, For the final consummation, And the universal sway. 4 O, what rapture—O, what singing! When these blissful spirits meet, As most tenderly they’re clinging, To the dear Redeemer’s feet. They are waiting—yes, they’re waiting, In their bright celestial homes, As most tenderly they’re clinging, To the dear Redeemer’s feet. Languages: English Tune Title: BURBANK

Person Name: Dr. A. Hill Hymnal Title: Chapel Melodies Author of "On the Other Shore" in Chapel Melodies

S. J. Vail

1818 - 1883 Hymnal Title: Chapel Melodies Composer of "[On the other shore they're waiting]" in Chapel Melodies In his youth Silas Jones Vail learned the hatter's trade at Danbury, Ct. While still a young man, he went to New York and took employment in the fashionable hat store of William H. Beebe. Later he established himself in business as a hatter at 118 Fulton Street, where he was for many years successful. But the conditions of trade changed, and he could not change with them. After his failure in 1869 or 1870 he devoted his entire time and attention to music. He was the writer of much popular music for use in churches and Sunday schools. Pieces of music entitled "Scatter Seeds of Kindness," "Gates Ajar," "Close to Thee," "We Shall Sleep, but not Forever," and "Nothing but Leaves" were known to all church attendants twenty years ago. Fanny Crosby, the blind authoress, wrote expressly for him many of the verses he set to music. --Vail, Henry H. (Henry Hobart). Genealogy of some of the Vail family descended from Jeremiah Vail at Salem, Mass., 1639, p. 234.
