Sing Aloud with Gladness

Author: William Gustin Cooper Appears in 2 hymnals Hymnal Title: The Cyber Hymnal First Line: Oh! I love the Gospel song Lyrics: 1. Oh! I love the Gospel song, How it sweetly rolls along, Let the earth the strains prolong, Sing aloud with gladness: Blessèd news to sinners bringing, While the angel choirs are singing, And the bells of Heav’n are ringing, Sing aloud with gladness. 2. Down the centuries it came, Glory, glory to His name, Free salvation to proclaim, Sing aloud with gladness: And this melody so hoary, Is humanity’s rich glory, And eternity’s sweet story, Sing aloud with gladness. 3. Haste, all lands, for Christ make room, Earth shall yield her sin and gloom, All her desert places bloom, Sing aloud with gladness: And this wonderful salvation Shall be sung by ev’ry nation, While He rules the vast creation, Sing aloud with gladness. Used With Tune: [Oh! I love the Gospel song] Text Sources: Gospel Voices, by David E. Dortch (Nashville, Tennessee: South Western Publishing House, 1895), number 1

W. G. Cooper

1861 - 1938 Person Name: William Gustin Cooper Hymnal Title: The Cyber Hymnal Author of "Sing Aloud with Gladness" in The Cyber Hymnal Rv William Gustin Cooper USA 1861-1938. Born in Evansville, WI, he married Mabel Luella Cooper. He became a Baptist minister having pastorates in Hortonville Village, WI, 1897 – 1901, and later in Ira, VT, in 1922. He also conducted camp meetings. He wrote a number of hymn lyrics and a few tunes. He died in Canton, ME. Note: In a campmeeting service in 1889, when the service was over, a lyricist, Warren Cornell, sat writing a poem. As he left the site, he dropped the paper he was writing and didn't notice it. An hour or or so later, Rev. Cooper came in to tidy up the tent area for the next service, saw the paper, picked it up and read it, and was so inspired by the words, that he finished writing the text and went to the organ and composed the tune for the hymn, “Wonderful peace”.
