My God, to Thee I now commend

Author: Miss Winkworth; Philip Frederic Hiller Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 13 hymnals Lyrics: 1 My God, to Thee I now commend My soul; for Thou, O Lord, Dost live and love me without end, And wilt perform Thy word. 2 To whom else should I make my plea, That heavenly life be mine? All souls, my God, belong to Thee; My soul is also Thine. 3 Thou gavest my spirit at my birth; Take back what Thou hast given; And with the Lord I served on earth, Grant me to live in heaven. 4 My soul is sprinkled with the Blood Thy Son hath shed for us, And in Thy sight is pure and good, Adorned and radiant thus. 5 Thou my Deliverer wast of yore; From sin Thou mad'st me free: Now, faithful God, do Thou, once more In death deliver me. 6 Thou livest and lovest without end, And dost perform Thy word: My parting soul I now commend To Thee, my God and Lord! Topics: Death and Eternity Preparation for Death; In near prospect of Death; Sixteenth Sunday after Trinity; Twenty Fourth Sunday after Trinity; Twenty Seventh Sunday after Trinity Used With Tune: NUN SICH DER TAG GEENDET HAT

Now that the day hath Reached Its Close

Author: Johann F. Hertzog; Unknown Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 15 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Now that the day hath reached its close, The sun doth shine no more, In sleep the toil-worn find repose And all who wept before. 2 But Thou, my God, dost never sleep, For Thou Thyself art Light; No darkness, howsoever deep, Can dim Thy perfect sight. 3 Therefore, O Lord, remember me Thro'-out the gloom of night. Protect Thou me most graciously And shield me with Thy might. 4 Keep Satan's fury far from me By many an angel arm; Then shall I be from worry free And safe from every harm. 5 I know the evil I have done Doth cry aloud to Thee; But yet in mercy Thy dear Son Hath full atoned for me. 6 In Him accepted I shall be When suppliant at Thy feet. He is my Surety and my Plea Before Thy judgment seat. 7 And so I close my weary eyes, Sweet peace within my breast. Why toss about in fears or sighs? God watches while I rest. 8 Should this night prove the last for me In this sad vale of cares, Then lead me, Lord, to dwell with Thee And all Thy chosen heirs. 9 And thus I live and die to Thee, Strong Lord of hosts indeed. In life, in death, deliver me From every fear and need. Amen. Topics: Times and Seasons Evening Scripture: Psalm 139:12 Used With Tune: NUN SICH DER TAG GEENDET HAT Text Sources: Tr. composite
