Representative Text

1 Nearer to our blessed Saviour,
Nearer to Him day by day;
Walking in His holy footsteps
From His side we cannot stray.
Now His loving voice is calling,
Bidding us to nearer come;
Tenderly His hand will guide us
Till we reach our heavenly home.

Refrain:
Nearer to Christ above,—
This is the song we sing,—
Nearer to Him we love,
Nearer to Christ our King.

2 Full of joy shall be our praises,
Sweeter be the songs we sing;
As we day by day press forward
Nearer to our gracious King.
Ever will the day grow brighter,
Flee away the shadow dim;
As we nearer live to Jesus,
As we closer walk with Him. [Refrain]

3 If we humbly walk with Jesus,
Trusting in His grace divine;
If our souls, by faith, each moment
On His loving arms recline;
When our pilgrimage is over,
And we bid the world goodbye,
We shall dwell with Him in glory
In a home beyond the sky. [Refrain]
