1859 - 1930 Person Name: William Edwin Entzminger, 1859-1930 Translator (sts. 1-3) of "Um Bom Amigo e Fiel Achei" in Hinário para o Culto Cristão William Edwin Entzminger was born in South Carolina in 1859. He earned a B.S. from Furman University in South Carolina and then went to Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY for a Doctor of Theology degree. He married Maggie Grace Griffith, and together they became Baptist missionaries in Brazil in 1891. He wrote and translated many hymns. ================= Born: December 25, 1859, South Carolina. Died: January 11, 1930, Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Buried: Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Entzminger studied at Furman University and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky. In 1891, he and his wife went to Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, where he worked as a missionary the rest of his life. Mendoza stu­died in­i­tial­ly un­der Don Au­re­lio Or­te­ga. At age of 11 he went to work in a Pro­test­ant print shop in Mex­i­co Ci­ty and helped pro­duce El Evan­gel­is­ta Mex­i­ca­no (The Mex­i­can Evan­gel­ist) for the Meth­od­ist Church of the South; he rose to be­come its di­rect­or for 17 years. Look­ing to im­prove him­self, Men­do­za en­tered a night school for work­ers, but lat­er feel­ing the call to preach the Gos­pel, he en­tered the Pres­by­ter­i­an Sem­in­a­ry in Mex­i­co Ci­ty. When the sem­in­a­ry closed temp­o­rar­i­ly, Men­do­za en­tered the Meth­od­ist In­sti­tute of Pueb­la, where he fin­ished the course in the­ol­o­gy. In 1898 he be­came a mem­ber of the An­nu­al Con­fer­ence of the Mex­i­can Meth­od­ist Church. From 1915 to 1917, he be­longed to the South­ern Meth­od­ist Con­fer­ence of Cal­i­for­nia. David William Hodges

Author (st. 4) of "Um Bom Amigo e Fiel Achei" in Hinário para o Culto Cristão David William Hodges was born in Kansas City, Missouri, December 22, 1942. He has music degrees (B.A., M.A. in voice) from Central Missouri State College (Warrensburg, MO) and a Master's degree in religious education from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Kansas City, MO) and studied in the doctoral program at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (Fort Worth, TX). After serving several churches in Missouri, Florida and Texas, he and his family were appointed as missionaries to Brazil under the Foreign (now International) Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. They served from 1980 until retirement in 2010, principally as a professor of voice and conducting in three different Baptist seminaries. He was a member of the hymnal committee that produced the O Hinario para o Culto Cristao in 1991, which contains several of his original hymns (music and lyrics) and translations. He and his wife, Ramona Gay Miller Hodges, live on Jekyll Island, Georgia (2018). David William Hodges
