Lee Hastings Bristol

1923 - 1979 Person Name: Lee H. Bristol, Jr. Composer of "PERRINE" in Hymns for Children and Grownups to Use Together Born: 1923, Brooklyn, New York. Died: 1979, Syracuse, New York. Bristol was educated at Hamilton College, Clinton, New York (BA); Trinity College of Music, London (organ studies); and the Institute for International Studies, Geneva, Switzerland (graduate studies). He worked in New York for the Bristol-Meyers Company (the family business) in advertising and public relations, 1948-62. From 1962-69, he served as president of Westminster Choir College, Princeton, New Jersey. In 1972, the Hymn Society in the United States and Canada made him a fellow of the society. His works include: The Lamb and Other Carols, 1951 Songs for Liturgy, editor More Hymns and Spiritual Songs, editor, 1972 Hymns for Children and Grown-Ups Lyrics: "Let Us Now Depart in Thy Peace" Music: SEDGWICK --hymntime.com/tch/

William Canton

1845 - 1926 Person Name: William Canton, 1845-1926 Author of "When the Herds Were Watching" in Songs of Light Canton, William, was b. Oct. 27, 1845, on the Isle of Chusan, China, and now (1906) resides in Highgate, London. He is the author of various volumes of poems, of a History of the British and Foreign Bible Society, 1903, &c. Two of his poems are used as hymns in the English Hymnal, 1906, and others. 1. Hold Thou my hands! [Hold Thou me up.] First published in Good Words, May 1893, p. 333, and reprinted in his The Invisible Playmate, 1894, p. 21. 2. Through the night Thy angels kept.
