O Lord, How Many They

Author: Unknown Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #5093 Meter: 6.6.8.6 Hymnal Title: The Cyber Hymnal Lyrics: 1. O Lord, how many they Who deeply trouble me; How greatly are they multiplied Who do me injury. 2. There is no help for him, No help in God, they say; Thou art my shield and glory, Lord, Thou art my certain stay. 3. I called to God, He heard From out His holy hill. I fell asleep, I woke in peace, For He sustained me still. 4. Arise and save, O Lord, For Thou didst smite my foe. Salvation cometh from the Lord; His saints His blessings know. William Daman

1540 - 1591 Hymnal Title: Psalter Hymnal (Blue) Composer of "SOUTHWELL" in Psalter Hymnal (Blue) Aliases: Damon; Damano; Demaunde; Damond; Dymond Born: ca.1540 Died: 1591 Damon was a foreign composer resident in England. He arrived probably in England in 1566 as a servant of Sir Thomas Sackville. In 1576 he became a recorder player at the Court of Elizabeth I. He was described as having been born in "Luke" and "Lewklande" and, on the assumption that these names refer to Luik or Liège, it has been inferred that he was a Walloon. However contemporary London records describe him as an Italian and a later reference refers to him having been born in "Luke in Italy", i.e. Lucca. His unanglicised name may have been Gulielmo (or Gulielmus) Damano. Daman died from the effects of an ulcer and was buried at St Peter-le-Poer, London, on 26 March 1591. Person Name: Unknown Hymnal Title: The Cyber Hymnal Author of "O Lord, How Many They" in The Cyber Hymnal In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries.
