Thy Word, O Lord, like Gentle Dews

Author: Miss C. Winkworth; C. B. Garve Hymnal: Concordia #50 (1918) Hymnal Title: Concordia Lyrics: 1 Thy Word, O Lord, like gentle dews, Falls soft on hearts that pine; Lord, to Thy garden ne'er refuse This heavenly balm of Thine. Watered by Thee, let ev'ry tree Forth blossom to Thy praise, By grace of Thine bear fruit divine, Thro' all the coming days. 2 Thy Word is like a flaming sword, A wedge that cleaveth stone; Keen as a fire, so burns Thy word, And pierceth flesh and bone. Let it go forth o'er all the earth, To cleanse our hearts within, To show Thy power in Satan's hour And break the might of sin. 3 Thy Word, a wondrous guiding star, On pilgrim hearts doth rise, Leads those to God who dwell afar, And makes the simple wise. Let not its light e'er sink in night; In ev'ry spirit shine, That none may miss heav'ns final bliss, Led by Thy light divine. I See Thee Stand, O Lamb Of God

Author: H. A. Brorson Hymnal: Hymnal for Church and Home #99 (1927) Hymnal Title: Hymnal for Church and Home Lyrics: 1 I see Thee stand, O Lamb of God, On Zion's mountain peak; But oh, the path that Thou hast trod So long, so hard, so bleak! On Thee was laid the weight and blame Of all our sin and shame; How deep Thou sankest in our woe No man can ever know. 2 O spotless Lamb that on the tree Receiv'd the cruel wound! O boundless love! to set us free He in our chains was bound. He wore and broke our prison bands With pierced feet and hands; A victor bold the tomb He broke, Gave death its mortal stroke. 3 Behold them stand around His throne, Those legions snowy white; Each eye is gleaming like the sun At this most wondrous sight. The story of grim Calvary On which He made us free, Is still among the angels' throng The noblest, sweetest song. 4 Twelve thousand twelve are holding now Their harps before the throne, The Father's name upon each brow Marks them the Savior's own. As mighty, rushing billows roar, They shout forevermore: To Him who won us from our plight Be glory, praise and might! 5 We thank Thee, Father, for Thy love To Adam's fallen race; Thou sentest Jesus from above To die in sinners' place. Praise we His name with fleeting breath, Praise Him in life and death; To Him who suffered on the tree Praise through eternity. I Sing To Thee With Voice And Heart

Author: P. Gerhardt Hymnal: Hymnal for Church and Home #258 (1927) Hymnal Title: Hymnal for Church and Home Lyrics: 1 I sing to Thee with voice and heart, Of all my joys the well; I sing, that, what I know Thou art, My lips to all may tell; That Thou a fountain art of grace, With blessings richly stored For all, in every time and place, This well I know, O Lord. 2 Cheer up, faint heart, rejoice and sing, All anxious fear resign; For God, the sovereign Lord and King, Is thy God, even thine: He is thy portion, He thy joy, Thy life, and light, and Lord; Thy counsellor when doubts annoy, Thy shield and great reward. 3 In restless tho'ts or dark despair Why spend the day and night? On Him who loves thee cast thy care; He makes our burdens light: Did not His love, and truth, and pow'r Watch o'er thy childhood's day? Hath He not oft, in threat'ning hour, Turn'd dreaded ills away! 4 His wisdom never plans in vain, Ne'er falters, or mistakes; All that His counsels wise ordain A happy ending makes: Upon thy mouth, then, lay thy hand, And trust His guiding eye; Thus, firm as rock, thy feet shall stand, Now and eternally.
