All is ready for the Feast!

Author: Frederick Pratt Green (1903-2000) Hymnal: Church Hymnary (4th ed.) #373 (2005) Meter: 7.7.7 Hymnal Title: Church Hymnary (4th ed.) Lyrics: 1 All is ready for the Feast! Every Jew is wondering how God will liberate them now. 2 Pilate, fearful of revolt he, at all costs, must avert, puts the Legion on alert. 3 Listen! Galilean crowds hail the Man from Nazareth, Jesus, riding to his death. 4 What authority he wields! With a whip of cords he clears temple courts of profiteers! 5 Watched by priests and pharisees, all he says and all he does fans the hatred of his foes. 6 Now he gathers those he loves in a room where bread and wine turn to sacrament and sign. 7 In that dark betrayal night, moved by hope, or fear or greed, Judas sets about his deed. 8 Jesus in the olive grove, waiting for a traitor's kiss, rises free from bitterness. 9 As he wakes his comrades up torches flicker in the glen, shadows turn to marching men. 10 In that dawn of blows and lies Church and State conspire to kill, hang three rebels on a hill. 11 Innocent and guilty drown in a flood of blood and sweat, how much darker can it get? 12 How much darker must it be for a God to see and care that men perish in despair? 13 It is God himself who dies! God in man shall set us free, God as Man - and only he. 14 Let him claim us as his own, we will serve as best we can such a God and such a Man! Final verse: 15 What does our salvation cost? Jesus, we shall never know all you gave and all we owe. Topics: Christ Incarnate Passion and Death; Christian Year Holy Week Scripture: 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Languages: English Tune Title: HEILIGER GEIST

Lord, in This Thy Mercy's Day

Author: Isaac Williams Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #3783 Meter: 7.7.7 Hymnal Title: The Cyber Hymnal Lyrics: 1. Lord, in this Thy mercy’s day, Ere for us it pass away, On our knees we fall and pray. 2. Holy Jesus, grant us tears, Fill us with heart searching fears, Ere the hour of doom appears. 3. Lord, on us Thy Spirit pour, Kneeling lowly at Thy door, Ere it close forevermore. 4. By Thy night of agony, By Thy supplicating cry, By Thy willingness to die, 5. By Thy tears of bitter woe, For Jerusalem below, Let us not Thy peace forego. 6. Judge and Savior of our race, Grant us, when we see Thy face, With Thy ransomed ones a place. 7. Grant us ’neath Thy wings a place, Lest we lose this day of grace, Ere we shall behold Thy face. 8. On Thy love we rest alone, And that love shall then be known, By the pardoned, round Thy throne. Languages: English Tune Title: HOLY GHOST

Oh That Day, That Day Of Ire

Author: Richard C. Trench Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #8543 Hymnal Title: The Cyber Hymnal Lyrics: 1 Oh that day, that day of ire, Told of prophet, when in fire Shall a world dissolved expire! 2 Oh what terror shall be then, When the Judge shall come again, Strictly searching deeds of men! 3 When a trump, of awful tone, Through the cave sepulchral blown, Summons all before the throne. 4 What amazement shall o’ertake Nature, when the dead awake, Answer to the Judge to make! 5 Open then the book shall lie, All o’erwrit for every eye With a world’s iniquity. 6 When the Judge His place has ta’en, All things hid shall be made plain, Nothing unavenged remain. 7 What then, wretched! shall I speak? Or what intercessor seek, When the just man’s cause is weak? 8 Jesus, Lord, remember pray, I the cause was of Thy way: Do not lose me on that day. 9 King of awful majesty, Who the saved does freely free, Fount of mercy, pity me. 10 Tired Thou sat, still seeking me— Crucified to set me free: Let such pain not fruitless be. 11 Terrible Avenger, make Of Thy mercy me partake, Ere that day of vengeance wake. 12 As a criminal I groan; Blushing deep, my fault I own; Grace be to a suppliant shown. 13 Thou who Mary did forgive, And who bade the robber live, Hope to me does also give. 14 Though my prayer unworthy be, Yet oh set me, graciously, From the fire eternal free. 15 ’Mid Thy sheep my place command; From the goats far off to stand, Set me Lord, at Thy right hand. 16 And when them who scorned Thee here Thou hast judged to doom severe, Bid me with Thy saved draw near. 17 Lying low before Thy throne, Crushed my heart in dust, I groan: Grace be to be a suppliant shown.
