Christians, awake! salute the happy morn

Author: John Byrom Hymnal: HAGA1895 #176 (1895) Meter: 10.10.10.10.10.10 Lyrics: 1 Christians, awake! salute the happy morn Whereon the Savior of the world was born; Rise to adore the mystery of love Which hosts of angels chanted from above; With them the joyful tidings first begun of God Incarnate and the Virgin's Son. 2 Then to the watchful shepherds it was told, Who heard the angelic herald's voice: "Behold, I bring good tidings of a Savior's birth To you, and all the nations upon earth. This day hath God fulfilled His promised word; This day is born a Savior, Christ the Lord." 3 He spake: and straightway the celestial choir In hymns of joy, unknown before, conspire; The praises of redeeming love they sang, And heaven's whole orb with alleluias rang: God's highest glory was their anthem still, Peace upon earth, and mutual good will. 4 To Bethlehem straight the enlightened shepherds ran, To see the wonder God had wrought for man; And found, with Joseph and the blessèd maid, Her Son, the Savior, in a manger laid: Amazed, the wondrous story they proclaim, The first apostles of His infant fame. 5. Let us, like these good shepherds, then, employ Our grateful voices to proclaim the joy; Trace we the Babe, who has retrieved our loss, From His poor manger to His bitter cross; Treading His steps, assisted by His grace, Till man's first heavenly state again takes place. Hark! hark, my soul! Angelic songs are swelling

Author: Rev. Frederick W. Faber Hymnal: HAGA1895 #620 (1895) Meter: 11.10.11.10.9.11 Lyrics: 1 Hark! hark, my soul, Angelic songs are swelling O'er earth's green fields and ocean's wave-beat shore: How sweet the truth those blessed strains are telling Of that new life when sin shall be no more. Angels of Jesus, Angels of light, Singing to welcome the pilgrims of the night. 2 Onward we go, for still we hear them singing, "Come, weary souls, for Jesus bids you come;" And through the dark, its echoes sweetly ringing, The music of the gospel leads us home. Angels of Jesus, Angels of light, Singing to welcome the pilgrims of the night. 3 Far, far away, like bells at evening pealing, The voice of Jesus sounds o'er land and sea; And laden souls by thousands meekly stealing, Kind Shepherd, turn their weary steps to Thee. Angels of Jesus, Angels of light, Singing to welcome the pilgrims of the night. 4 Rest comes at length: though life be long and dreary, The day must dawn, and darksome night be past; Faith's journeys end in welcomes to the weary, And heaven, the heart's true home, will come at last. Angels of Jesus, Angels of light, Singing to welcome the pilgrims of the night. 5 Angels, sing on, your faithful watches keeping; Sing us sweet fragments of the songs above; Till morning's joy shall end the night of weeping, And life's long shadows break in cloudless love. Angels of Jesus, Angels of light, Singing to welcome the pilgrims of the night. Amen. Languages: English

Father of all, to thee

Author: Rev. John Julian Hymnal: HAGA1895 #65 (1895) Meter: 6.6.6.6.8.8 Lyrics: 1 Father of all, to Thee, With loving hearts we pray, Through Him, in mercy given, The Life, the Truth, the Way; From heaven, Thy throne, in mercy shed Thy blessings on each bended head. 2 Father of all, to Thee, Our contrite hearts we raise, Unstrung by sin and pain, Long voiceless in Thy praise; Breathe Thou the silent chords along, Until they tremble into song. 3 Father of all, to Thee, we breathe unuttered fears, Deep-hidden in our souls, That have no voice but tears; Take Thou our hand, and through the wild Lead gently on, each trembling child. 4 Father of all, may we In praise our tongues employ, When gladness fills the soul With deep and hallowed joy; In storm and calm give us to see The path of peace, which leads to Thee. It is not death to die

Author: Rev. H. A. César Malan; Rev. George W. Bethune Hymnal: HAGA1895 #611 (1895) Meter: 6.6.8.6 Lyrics: 1 It is not death to die, To leave this weary road, And midst the brotherhood on high To be at home with God. 2 It is not death to close The eye long dimmed by tears, And wake, in glorious repose To spend eternal years. 3 It is not death to bear The wrench that sets us free From dungeon chain, to breathe the air Of boundless liberty. 4 It is not death to fling Aside this sinful dust, And rise, on strong, exulting wing, To live among the just. 5 Jesus, Thou Prince of Life, Thy chosen cannot die: Like Thee, they conquer in the strife, To reign with Thee on high. Amen. Languages: English

Come unto Me, ye weary

Author: William C. Dix Hymnal: HAGA1895 #446 (1895) Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Lyrics: 1 "Come unto Me, ye weary, And I will give you rest." O blessed voice of Jesus Which comes to hearts oppressed! It tells of benediction, Of pardon, grace, and peace, Of joy that hath no ending, Of love which cannot cease. 2 "Come unto Me, dear children, And I will give you light." O loving voice of Jesus Which comes to cheer the night! Our hearts were filled with sadness, And we had lost our way; But morning brings us gladness, And songs the break of day. 3 "Come unto Me, ye fainting, And I will give you life." O peaceful voice of Jesus Which comes to end our strife! The foe is stern and eager, The fight is fierce and long; But Thou hast made us mighty, And stronger than the strong. 4 "And whosoever cometh I will not cast him out." O patient love of Jesus Which drives away our doubt; Which calls us, very sinners, Unworthy though we be Of love so free and boundless, To come, dear Lord, to Thee! Amen. Languages: English

Lord, I believe; Thy power I own

Author: Rev. John R. Wreford Hymnal: HAGA1895 #486 (1895) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Lyrics: 1. Lord, I believe; Thy power I own, Thy Word I would obey; I wander comfortless and lone When from Thy truth I stray. 2. Lord, I believe; but gloomy fears Sometimes bedim my sight; I look to Thee with prayers and tears, And cry for strength and light. 3. Lord, I believe; but Thou dost know My faith is cold and weak; Pity my fraility, and bestow The confidence I seek. 4. Yes, I believe; and only Thou Canst give my soul relief: Lord, to Thy truth my spirit bow; Help Thou mine unbelief. Amen. Languages: English
