Lord, teach us how to pray aright

Author: James Montgomery (1771-1854) Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 222 hymnals Scripture: Habakkuk 2:3 Lyrics: 1 Lord, teach us how to pray aright with reverence and with fear; though fallen sinners in thy sight, we may, we must, draw near. 2 Our spirits fail through lack of prayer: oh, grant us power to pray; and, when to meet thee we prepare, Lord, meet us by the way. 3 God of all grace, we bring to thee a broken contrite heart; give what thine eye delights to see-- truth in the inward part; 4 Trust in the only sacrifice that can for sin atone, to cast our hopes, to fix our eyes, on Christ, on Christ alone; 5 Patience to watch and wait and weep, though mercy long delay; and courage our faint souls to keep, with faith in thee alway. 6 Give these, and then thy will be done: thus, strengthened with all might, we, through thy Spirit and thy Son, shall pray and pray aright. O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 1,725 hymnals Scripture: Habakkuk 2:4 Lyrics: 1 Oh, for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace! 2 Jesus, the name that charms our fears, that bids our sorrows cease, 'tis music in the sinner's ears, 'tis life, and health, and peace. 3 He speaks, and, list'ning to his voice, new life the dead receive; the mournful, broken hearts rejoice, the humble poor believe. 4 Hear him, you deaf; his praise, ye dumb, your loosened tongues employ; ye blind, behold your Savior come; and leap, you lame, for joy. 5 Look unto him, ye nations: own your God, ye fallen race; look, and be saved by faith alone; be justified by grace. 6 My gracious Master and my Lord, assist me to proclaim, and spread through all the earth abroad the honors of thy name. The Lily of the Valley

Author: Charles W. Fry Meter: Irregular with refrain Appears in 393 hymnals Scripture: Habakkuk 2:4 First Line: I have found a friend in Jesus Refrain First Line: He's the Lily of the Valley, Lyrics: 1 I have found a friend in Jesus, he’s everything to me, he’s the fairest of ten thousand to my soul; the Lily of the Valley, in him alone I see all I need to cleanse and make me fully whole. In sorrow he’s my comfort, in trouble he’s my stay. he tells me every care on him to roll. He’s the Lily of the Valley, the bright and Morning Star, he’s the fairest of ten thousand to my soul. 2 He all my grief has taken, and all my sorrows borne; in temptation he’s my strong and mighty tower; I have all for him forsaken, and all my idols torn from my heart, and now he keeps me by his power. Though all the world forsake me, and Satan tempts me sore, Through Jesus I shall safely reach the goal. He’s the Lily of the Valley, the bright and Morning Star, he’s the fairest of ten thousand to my soul. 3 He will never, never leave me, nor yet forsake me here, while I live by faith and do his blessed will; a wall of fire about me, I’ve nothing now to fear, with his manna he my hungry soul shall fill. Then sweeping up to glory, to see his blessed face, where rivers of delight shall ever roll. He’s the Lily of the Valley, the bright and Morning Star, he’s the fairest of ten thousand to my soul. "No other name"

Author: Isaac Watts Appears in 600 hymnals Scripture: Habakkuk 2:4 First Line: Not all the blood of beasts Lyrics: 1 Not all the blood of beasts On Jewish altars slain, Could give the guilty conscience peace, Or wash away the stain. 2 But Christ the heavenly Lamb Takes all our sins away, A sacrifice of nobler name And richer blood than they. 3 My faith would lay her hand On that dear head of thine, While like a penitent I stand, And there confess my sin. 4 My soul looks back to see The burdens thou didst bear, When hanging on the cursed tree, And hopes her guilt was there. 5 Believing, we rejoice To see the curse remove; We bless the Lamb with cheerful voice, And sing his dying love. And Satan holds our captive minds Fast in his slavish chains. 2 But there's a voice of sovereign grace, Sounds from the sacred word; "Ho! ye despairing sinners, come, And trust a pardoning, Lord." 3 My soul obeys the almighty call, And runs to this relief; I would believe thy promise, Lord: Oh, help my unbelief! 4 A guilty, weak, and helpless worm, On thy kind arms I fall; Be thou my Strength and Righteousness, My Saviour and my All.
