He truly tasted death to give us hope again, in bitter pangs resigned his breath, but now has ris'n. Amen! 3 He has himself the keys of death, the grave, and hell; his is the victory and praise, and he rules all things well; death now no more I dread, but cheerful close mine eyes; death is a sleep, the grave a bed; with Jesus I shall rise. Awake, My Heart, with Gladness

Author: Paul Gerhardt, 1607-1676; John Kelly, 1833-1890 Meter: 7.6.7.6.6.6.6.6 Appears in 26 hymnals Scripture: John 20:1-8 Lyrics: 1 Awake, my heart, with gladness– see what today is done! Now, after gloom and sadness, comes forth the glorious sun. My Savior there was laid where our bed must be made when to the realms of light our spirit wings its flight. 2 The foe in triumph shouted when Christ lay in the tomb; but lo, he now is routed, his boast is turned to gloom. For Christ again is free; in glorious victory he who is strong to save has triumphed o'er the grave. 3 This is a sight that gladdens— what peace it does impart! Now nothing ever saddens the joy within my heart. No gloom shall ever shake, no foe shall ever take the hope which God's own Son in love for me has won. 4 Now I will cling forever to Christ, my Savior dear, My Lord will leave me never; with him I need not fear. He rends death's iron chain; he breaks through sin and pain. He shatters hell's dark thrall; I follow Him through all. 5 He brings me to the portal that leads to bliss untold, whereon this rhyme immortal is found in script of gold: "Who there my cross has shared finds here a crown prepared; who there with me has died shall here be glorified." Come, Let Us with Our Lord Arise

Author: Charles Wesley Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 Appears in 25 hymnals Scripture: John 20:1 Lyrics: 1 Come, let us with our Lord arise, our Lord, who made both earth and skies; who died to save the world he made, and rose triumphant from the dead; he rose, the Prince of life and peace, and stamped the day forever his. 2 This is the day the Lord has made, that all may see his love displayed, may feel his resurrection's power, and rise again, to fall no more, in perfect righeousness renewed, and filled with all the life of God. 3 Then let us render him his own, with solemn prayer approach his throne, with meekness hear the gospel word, with thanks his dying love record, our joyful hearts and voices raise, and fill his courts with songs of praise. The Lamb's High Banquet Called to Share

Author: John Mason Neale (1818-1866) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Appears in 24 hymnals Scripture: John 19:38-42, 20:1-18 Lyrics: 1 The Lamb's high banquet called to share, arrayed in garments white and fair, the Red Sea past, we long to sing to Jesus our triumphant king. 2 Upon the altar of the cross, his body hath redeemed our loss; and, tasting of his precious blood, our life is hid with him in God. 3 Protected in the paschal night from the destroying angel's might, in triumph went the ransomed free from Pharaoh's cruel tyranny. 4 Now Christ our passover is slain, the Lamb of God without a stain; his flesh, the true unleavened bread, is freely offered in our stead. 5 O all-sufficient Sacrifice, beneath thee hell defeated lies; thy captive people are set free, and endless life restored in thee. 6 We hymn thee rising from the grave, from death returning, strong to save; thine own right hand the tyrant chains, and paradise for us regains. 7 All praise be thine, O risen Lord, from death to endless life restored; all praise to God the Father be and Holy Ghost eternally. Topics: Easter (season); Easter Vigil ; Eucharist; Exodus Used With Tune: ST. VENANTIUS Text Sources: Latin (6th cent.)

Love's redeeming work is done

Author: Charles Wesley, 1707-1788 Meter: 7.7.7.7 Appears in 24 hymnals Scripture: John 20:1-18 Lyrics: 1 Love's redeeming work is done; fought the fight, the battle won: lo, our Sun's eclipse is o'er, lo, he sets in blood no more. 2 Vain the stone, the watch, the seal; Christ has burst the gates of hell; death in vain forbids his rise; Christ has opened paradise. 3 Lives again our glorious King; where, O death, is now thy sting? Dying once, he all doth save; where thy victory, O grave? 4 Soar we now where Christ has led, foll'wing our exalted Head; made like him, like him we rise; ours the cross, the grave, the skies. 5 Hail the Lord of earth and heav'n! praise to thee by both be giv'n: thee we greet triumphant now; hail, the Resurrection thou!
