We All Believe in One True God

Author: Martin Luther, 1483-1546 Hymnal: CWH2021 #941 (2021) Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8.8.8.8.8 Tune Title: WIR GLAUBEN ALL (Chant) Lyrics: 1 We all believe in one true God, who created earth and heaven, the Father, who to us in love has the right of children given. He in soul and body feeds us; all we need his hand provides us; through all snares and perils leads us, watching that no harm betide us. He cares for us by day and night; all things are governed by his might. 2 We all believe in Jesus Christ, his own Son, our Lord, possessing an equal Godhead, throne, and might, source of ev'ry grace and blessing; born of Mary, virgin mother, by the power of the Spirit, made true man, our elder brother, that the lost might life inherit, was crucified for all our sin and raised by God to life again. 3 We all confess the Holy Ghost, who, in highest heaven dwelling with the God the Father and the Son, comforts us beyond all telling; who the Church, his own creation, keeps in unity of spirit; here forgiveness and salvation daily come through Jesus' merit. All flesh shall rise, and we shall be in bliss with God eternally. Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:13-14 Languages: English

The Star Proclaims the King Is Here

Author: Coelius Sedulius, 5th cent.; John Mason Neale, 1818-1866 Hymnal: CWH2021 #374 (2021) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Tune Title: WO GOTT ZUM HAUS Lyrics: 1 The star proclaims the King is here; but, Herod, why this senseless fear? For he who came from heaven's throne does not desire an earthly crown. 2 The eastern Magi saw from far and followed on his guiding star, and, led by light, to Light they pressed and by their gifts their God confessed. 3 Within the Jordan River stood the pure and holy Lamb of God; the father's voice, the Spirit-dove, confirmed the Savior from above. 4 At Cana, miracle divine, when water reddened into wine, the faithful saw his glory shown and put their trust in him alone. 5 All glory unto Jesus be and praise for his epiphany, whom with the Father we adore and Holy Spirit evermore. A home that is not wholly his— how sad and poor and dark it is! 2 Oh, blest that house where faith is found and all in hope and love abound; they trust their God and serve him still and do in all his holy will. 3 Oh, blest the parents who gives heed unto their children's foremost need and weary not of care or cost. May none to them and heav'n be lost! 4 Blest such a house, it prospers well; in peace and joy the parents dwell, and in their children's lives is shown how richly God can bless his own. 5 Then here will I and mine today a solemn promise make and say: though all the world forsake his Word, I and my house will serve the Lord. God's Holy Spirit Came

Author: Mary Jackson Cathey, b. 1926; Michael Denham, b. 1955 Hymnal: CWH2021 #479 (2021) Meter: 6.6.8.4 D Tune Title: YIGDAL Lyrics: 1 God's Holy Spirit came with rushing wind and fire, Christ's presence here to comfort, bless, and to inspire. The Spirit thus began God's holy work on earth at Pentecost, a gift that gave the Church its birth. 2 God sent the Spirit forth, fulfilling prophets' word, to those who followed Jesus and who called him Lord. And as disciples met near temple courts for prayer the Spirit blew and rested on those gathered there. 3 God's Spirit filled each one, as Jesus had foretold. In many tongues they spoke God's Word, renewed and bold. "Repent and be baptized," preached Peter in that hour, and thousands came believing by the Spirit's pow'r. 4 God's Church alive today continues to proclaim salvation by the Spirit's pow'r in Jesus' name. Let all believers now their tongues and lives employ. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, our highest joy! Topics: Day of Pentecost Scripture: Acts 2:1-11 Languages: English

Jehovah, great I AM, by earth and heav'n confessed, I bow and bless the sacred name forever blest. 2 The God of Abr'ham praise, at whose supreme command from earth I rise and seek the joys at his right hand. I all on earth forsake, its wisdom, fame, and pow'r, and him my only portion make, my shield and tow'r. 3 The God of Abr'ham praise, whose all-sufficient grace shall guide me all my pilgrim days in all my ways. He deigns to call me friend; he calls himself my God. And he shall save me to the end through Jesus' blood. 4 He by himself has sworn; I on his oath depend. I shall, on eagle wings upborne, to heav'n ascend. I shall behold his face; I shall his pow'r adore and sing the wonders of his grace forevermore.
