From The Graves Remove Dark Crosses

Author: N. F. S. Grundtvig Hymnal: Hymnal for Church and Home #103 (1927) Meter: 8.7.8.7.7.7.8.8 Lyrics: 1 From the graves remove dark crosses, Grow the lilies in their stead, Blend the flower's with tender mosses, Plant sweet roses in the bed. Place, instead of signs of grief, Angel wings in bright relief. Palms instead of columns broken, Words of hope that God has spoken. 2 Sudden darkness light succeeded When for us He shed His blood, Brighter light to us was deeded When the Victor with us stood. Now our praises rise on high 'Neath the Easter morning sky Unto Christ, the resurrected, Prov'd to be of God elected. 3 See the friends of Jesus grieving: How they wring their hands in woe! They, although in Him believing, Saw Him yielding to the foe. When released from death's sharp throes, He, the Easter Sun, arose, They beheld the tomb now broken, Angels pointing to the token. 4 "Open tombs! The saints surrender!" Jesus' voice in dusk of day Sounds in accents strong, yet tender, Shedding light upon our way, He is calling, but not now "Adam, sinner, where art thou?" No, He says with gracious favor: "Here am I, your risen Savior." 5 Here He is, the God-man risen, Broken are the chains of death. Opened is our gloomy prison, And His word is life and breath; Now a summer morning bright Dawns on us to end our night; And, their Easter anthems singing, Souls their way to Him are winging. Dost thou know the living fountain

Author: Herman Andreas Timm, 1800-1866; J. C. Aaberg Hymnal: Hymns and Hymnwriters of Denmark #106 (1945) Meter: 8.7.8.7.7.7.8.8 Lyrics: Dost thou know the living fountain Whence the stream of grace doth flow? Dry the streams from snowcapped mountain, Yet this stream shall fuller grow. From the very heart of God Flows its currents deep and broad, Unto every land and nation, Bringing mercy and salvation. Come unto the living waters! Cried the prophets, do not shrink! God invites His sons and daughters: He that thirsteth come and drink. With this water God imparts Health and strength to sin-sick hearts. Why are ye then hesitating While the Lord with grace is waiting. With us is the day appointed, God has kept His gracious word. He has come, the Lord’s annointed; Men have seen the promised Lord. Saints of God from every race Found in Him the fount of grace, And, with joy that never ceases, Said: The Fount of Life is Jesus. Hasten then! Let all assemble At this fountain pure and strong. Come, ye souls that fear and tremble, Come, ye old, and come ye young. Now the hour of grace is here, Draw then to its fountain near. Soon, ah soon! the day is over. Quickly night the world may cover. Languages: English

Over Kedron Jesus Passeth

Author: Thomas Kingo Hymnal: Hymnal for Church and Home #108 (1927) Meter: 8.7.8.7.7.7.8.8 Lyrics: 1 Over Kedron Jesus passeth To His passion for us all, Ev'ry eye should now be weeping; Tears of bitter grief let fall! Round Him flock the cruel foes, Place their shafts and bend their bows Aiming at the Savior solely, While the world forsakes Him wholly. 2 David once, with heart afflicted Cross'd the Kedron's narrow brook, While the darken'd clouds envied Him And in anguish deep he shook; But, O Jesus, darker now Bend the clouds about Thy brow As Thou nearest death's grim portals For the sin and shame of mortals. 3 See how agonized He falleth As the shadows round Him drop; Thrice He to His Father calleth Praying that the bitter cup He from Him will take away; Yet, in meekness He doth pray: Not my will but Thine, O Father; Then the angels round Him gather. 4 See Him falling down in anguish In the dark and evil hour, Agonies untold assail Him And their darts upon Him shower. All the garden flowers are wet With the drops of bloody sweat From His anguished frame distilling, Man's redemption thus fulfilling. 5 But, O flowers, so sadly watered By this pure and precious dew In a blessed hour your blossoms 'Neath the olive-shadows grew! Eden's garden did not bear Aught that can with you compare, For the blood, thus freely given Makes my soul the heir of heaven.
